It makes sense that in our current culture we end up putting way too much sugar and way too much cream to the point that it becomes a meal's worth of extra calories, which over time causes obesity, etc. That is clearly bad.

However, the way that they frame it appears to say that the moment a drop of milk touches the coffee it has lost its health benefits. What about the guy/gal who puts an ounce of milk in his/her cup without any sugar and doesn't increase his/her calorie intake for the day? Is the science saying "Thanks for playing, but you lose anyways"?
Probably. Anything that tastes good is bad for you.

I think that's more of a caveat than anything. Most people don't drink it black, nor have they ever done so, so these health effects apply to the historical typical use of coffee--with a little cream and a little sugar. I think they want to emphasize that they may not cross over so well to a Frappuccino.

Honestly, I think coffee is much like any other plant product. If you drown vegetables in butter and cheese, they're not all that healthy. However, broccoli with a little butter is better than no broccoli at all. I even think the studies could carry over similarly--if people had a good accurate idea of how much broccoli they had eaten every day for the last ten years, like they do for coffee, we could publish similar studies.

At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

That is how it sometimes seems, isn't it?

A nice filet mignon with baked potatoes, bacon, butter and sour cream hits the taste buds just right. Finish that off with some chocolate mousse and you have a wonderful, fat-infested meal.

Never mind the broccoli in garlic, butter and salt.

Not quite to that level but it seems anything that is addictive is bad for you.

I raise a toast to this article, with my 44-oz diet coke on ice.

                • Crap. Am I going to have to cold brew coffee now?

I'll drive over there and re-baptize you if you want.

Just add plenty of milk or half and half.

No surprise that burning your esophagus and stomach daily for years could contribute to cancer risk.

You brew it hot, just drink it on ice. Or not at all. I hear Clacka is on your doorstep.

And I'll raise my spoon of mocha flavored ice cream.

                          • I didn't see any reference in this thread to this: https://www.criobru.com/

I was all in on Crio Bru for awhile. I had a fancy coffee cup, a french press, and some good creamers. Unfortunately I notice a strong correlation between my cup of Crio Bru and an ongoing, persistent case of the runs.

I like that the article also links alcohol and tobacco use to increased risk of cancer. That just proves it!

If anyone asks, I stopped reading before I got to the part about essentially all red meat being carcinogenic too. I seriously need a ribeye about now...
