Worth it. As long as I don't have to coordinate it.

The church is beginning to transcended Utah and the Salt Lake influence. I think you are going to see more and more American missionaries serving in U.S. missions because of the "logistical nightmare" as Indy calls it. This scenario is already occurring in Europe. There is an MTC in Madrid, Spain in addition to the one in England. Beyond the new MTC being built in Mexico, I imagine there are other MTC's being planned for other countries (pure speculation on my part).

Just looked it up. There are MTC's in:

      Argentina
      Brazil
      Chile
      Colombia
      Dominican Republic
      England
      Ghana
      Guatemala
      Mexico
      New Zealand
      Peru
      Philippines
      South Africa
      Spain
      United States

We know a girl that put in her papers recently and was called to serve in the Ogden mission. She was devastated and claimed she was going to turn it down. I think her parents have her calmed down a bit now.

My original mission call was to SLC North. I too was devasted. However, my call got changed to the east coast because of all the relatives I had in the mission boundaries. I grew up in the midwest but my folks familes were from SLC and Davis county - we were the only family on either side of large Momon familes to grow up outside "Zion".

Although I had a positive mission experience, I think SLC North would have been great. I probably went from the easiest stateside mission to the most difficult.

If you like teaching non-stop and baptizing people almost every week of your mission and never having to cook a meal, Utah missions are great.

A Utah mission would be an awesome mission. They baptize a lot compared to most stateside missions. No tracting. Eat at member's houses daily. All referrals. All have Mormon friends.

As for weird calls - one of my son's best friends got his call to go to Mexico in late September - to report to the MTC in MARCH. A similar thing happend with my son's greeny trainer (from Mexico) - time from call to reporting to the MTC was ~6 months. He called up the MTC and said it was too long a wait and that he needed to start sooner. They checked with his mission and said - "Okay, can you be up here next week?" and he started right away.

Sometimes ballsiness is rewarded. Even in The Church...

It's getting harder and harder to get those visas. They can't even get the kids to the MTC. They have sent several straight to their mission bypassing Provo all together.
Kid from Edmonton that served in our ward 3 years ago...his sister open her mission call tonight...California Ventura Mission.

2 kids from the same house, called to the same mission.

I wonder how often it happens.

You wouldn't think it would be all that common, but we happen to have a young man in our ward who just left for the same mission his older brother served in: Tahiti Papeete. I told him to go clean up his brother's mess.
