Anecdotally, it seems to me like there are a disproportionate number of missionaries being called stateside these days. I'm wondering if with the big influx of missionaries, they are ramping up stateside first?

No kidding. I would not have submitted my mission call opening to the montage either. It sucked to be a stateside missionary. No prestige at all.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostBased on that video of 80 kids from Oly high opening mission calls, I disagree with this.Dyslexics are teople poo...

Of the 20 or more young men I personally know who are currently serving only one is stateside. It took him several months to get a visa and he started his mission in Canada. It's getting harder and harder to get those visas. They can't even get the kids to the MTC. They have sent several straight to their mission bypassing Provo all together.Originally posted by The_Tick View PostNo way.
3 of the last 7 elders in our ward have been Canucks.

My brother-in-law-to-be had his mission to the US delayed by two months as they sorted out his visa. He left in November 2012. He is German. Anecdotal, I know.Originally posted by tooblue View PostOf the 20 or more young men I personally know who are currently serving only one is stateside. It seems many of the international technical conferences for my particular field of employment that use to be hosted in Amerika are now hosted outside of here because of the hassle for the non-Amerikans. In fact I am heading to your lovely country (your capital city, in fact) in a few months for one. Can y'all turn up the heat before I get there? Also, it would be nice if everyone spoke just english instead of franglais.Originally posted by tooblue View PostThe biggest reason is because Amerika won't let anyone but Amerikans into the country. I live outside of the US. They don't send many stateside from here any more."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

I see a trend I'm not going to like. With more missionaries coming out, they are going to focus inward on the existing members to fill their time. Last night at 8:51 two Elders unexpectedly showed up on our porch, looking for our 20 year old daughter. I was kind, mostly, and told them that they need to call before stopping by, and that it was a little late in the evening for a social call.
I fear, that with only so much rejection available from non members, the missioaries are going to start mining rejection from the members as well.

I wondering about this, maybe having the missionaries doing more service hours would help.Originally posted by clackamascoug View PostI see a trend I'm not going to like. We had transfers last week and the new sister was asked to bear her testimony in sacrament meeting. She's 19 and straight from the MTC. With the influx of new missionaries we also now get the companionship full time to our ward (they used to be between 2 wards). It's cool to get one of the first 19 year old sisters in our ward, but you could tell she was not 21....in a good and bad way.Originally posted by clackamascoug View PostI see a trend I'm not going to like. The logjam of missionaries with visa problems would be an incredible logistical nightmare. As it is, our ward has had an elder for 3 months that has been waiting for his visa to Samoa. He even had to do his language training with his senior companion because there was no room in the inn for him at the MTC.Originally posted by Slim View PostI think it would be better to send as many people foreign as possible. Send all capable US missionaries to other countries and bring the foreigners here to see how the church is run in the USA.
