SB, BP, creek... Remember brethren, this is a Utah County resident decrying the nuttiness of NorCal wards.
lol. My bad on that one. I was thinking of some of the stories from Tick and SoccerMom. Let's stick with Texas.
"There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."
"It's no secret that the great American pastime is no longer baseball. Now it's sanctimony." -- Guy Periwinkle, The Nix.

It seems to have gotten younger. Normally you would think that would make it a little more liberal but they are hardcore down the line Mormons.
I think Mormons are the opposite of the rest of the world this way. Mormonism tends to turn out idealistic uber-conservative young mullahs rather than idealistic liberals.
It all comes down to seeing things as black and white. Nuance comes later with life experience.

FTR, my ward is much better now that I have moved into the city. I am sure there are some fine wards in Austin as well. How about just wards North of Dallas and in and around the Houston area?
"If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.
"I honestly believe saying someone is a smart lawyer is damning with faint praise. The smartest people become engineers and scientists." -SU. "Yet I still see wisdom in that which Uncle Ted posts." -creek. GIVE 'EM HELL, BRIGHAM!
No doubt. That said, I think Sam Brannan had the right idea when he said Brigham Young should have kept going.
Having spent most of my life outside of Utah and now the last 4 years in the UC, here is my take.
Wards are MUCH more homogenous here. A big part of this is just demographics / geographical size of wards. I don't care where you are, if the ward composes just a few blocks, it's going to be that way. Outside of Utah, you get more socioeconomic diversity just because of larger wards (geographically). If the Provo River Bottoms and the hispanic sections of Provo were in the same ward ... it would be much different.
The nuttiness I have seen outside of Utah tends to come from Utah transplants who think they have been called on a mission to make their ward like Utah.

Transplanted Mormons aggregate in the newer suburbs so this makes sense to me. Our ward in Flower Mound was much more Utah-ish than the one in Rockwall. But the FM ward was maybe 80 or 90% western transplants too.

The rest of us rarely bother to think about our actions." --Solon
