If they had stuck to The Most Holy Book of Mormon like Whitmer, 99.9% of them would have never come about.

David said it took him nearly 50 years to figure out where they went wrong. Thanks to his writings, it will take the average Mormon 5 years to come out.

Just curious - getting back to the original topic...

If your original idea is correct, and those verses imply than nothing should be added to or taken away from the HBOM - as per the words of Christ when he visited...

How does that jive with the idea that everything in the HBOM (including the 3rd Nephi stuff you quote) from Mosiah on was all part of a massive library that Mormon later abridged and compiled. Does that mean Mormon did wrong (taking from)? Does that mean we won't really have EVERYTHING until God sees fit to give us all of the original documents rather than just having Mormon's Reader's Digest version?

Just trying to figure out where you're coming from...

No one's writings could ever make me stop loving boobies.

To clarify, the doctrine we are warned not to add to nor take away from applies only to what is require to get back to God.

              DWhit,

You may have answered this question elsewhere, but what is your belief/standing on the Godhead? Do you follow the original Holy Book of Mormon teachings that implied God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit are one being, or do you following the subsequent revisions that made it more interpretable as three seperate beings? TIA

Based on Revelation 10:7 I understand people can interpret the Godhead how they want:
7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets. (Revelation 10)

It should not be a point of contention imo.

DWhitmer, I am going to give you some credit on this one. Last Sunday in HP we had a discussion on the parable of the servants in the vineyard where the servants who joined right before the end of the workday got the same reward as those who joined at the beginning of the day; with the obvious message that anyone who accepts Christ is accepted and rewarded by God, without pre-conditions. One of the old guys raised his hand and said, "Yeah, maybe people like that would go to the Celestial Kingdom, but they wouldn't go to the highest level of the Celestial Kingdom because ..."

Thankfully, most of the HP members shot him down, but there is clearly a tendency in LDS theology to add more and more layers and rules and conditions on salvation over time. I think in many ways we aren't that much different than the Pharisees. The gospel should be simple.

One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.
