I would never volunteer my husband to do something LOL. That is a recipe for disaster in my home. I have encouraged him to volunteer for certain things, strongly encouraged at times, but would never sign him up without his knowledge or permission.

Yeah, I think I would be concerned about the guy too, especially since they are using members to save some money. I don't have much sympathy for the ride thing though. I was on a bike my entire mission. We managed. Maybe missionaries should have an uber budget. . they can convert the uber drivers.

Before I can comment on if this ever happened in my mission I should get advice from counsel.

When I presented that request to the quorum, I got nothing but push-back. Apparently returned missionaries who never had that luxury on their own mission, didn't see that it was truly a need. I more or less agreed with them, and didn't pursue it further.

Their area is about 4 blocks by 8 blocks.
No way. Are mission areas in the valley that small? That is crazy.

We use to do it so we could take all the back roads to door mean dogs for revenge. It was always fun to take the more scenic routes.

Must be a good area? That's also the area our stake takes up, except for about 1 1/2 blocks by 4 blocks on the East end of the area.

I'm just surprised they won't walk.

It is overused, but I'll say it, millenials.

I'm guessing most of us have walked up hill both ways type mission stories, but seriously, what's wrong with walking?

I think they honestly felt this was their way of hastening the work. Incidentally, we have a new set of Elders in our area. It was raining, and they were walking up the hill as I was driving home. I stopped to see if they needed a ride, and they declined.

Isn't the entirety of being a missionary based on members being willing to do things because they feel it is what a faithful person should do? Referrals, meals, rides, financial donations personally or generally, etc?

The good members of Long Beach have been incredibly kind to my daughter on her mission. Nice to know there are some non-jaded folks out there.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
