I know this is about the 4th time you've said this, but it still deserves a heartyOriginally posted by Uncle Ted View PostHow many times do we have to go over this? It wasn't tithing funds. It was from investments the church made using seed money from selling the gold plates.
This mall is going to pay back at least ten times the church's investment. It only has something like $7,000+ invested per square foot of retail space. Given that none of those retailers will be open on Sunday they will all be greatly blessed. Plus those condos are going to sell like hot cakes. Who wouldn't want to live in a great and spacious building looking down on all those people going to the temple?

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I do think that this a seperate and distinct issue from the other City Creek thread. Despite what many people on here and the interwebs think, the church is very proud of City Creek. The project was announced in general conference. So although I think the church should be more conscious of seperating the religous vs for-profit entities of the church, if an 85 year old seer wants to cut the ribbon on a billion dollar project that he has watched out his office window grow over the last 3 years, then more power to him.Originally posted by SoonerCoug View PostI thought it was tasteless that President Monson was helping to cut the ribbon to open City Creek."Friendship is the grand fundamental principle of Mormonism" - Joseph Smith Jr.

The Prophet should have just gone all the way and performed a dedicatory prayer on the CCC.Originally posted by SoonerCoug View PostI thought it was tasteless that President Monson was helping to cut the ribbon to open City Creek. How lame is it to have the leader of your religion opening a giant mall that was funded with tithing dollars?
Can anyone imagine the pope or another religious figure celebrating the opening a huge shopping mall that was built with church money? Imagine Mother Teresa opening a shopping mall. I think this is just one more example of how horrible the Church's PR department is.
What are some worthy things that could be done with 2 billion dollars besides building a megamall? Think about how many homeless people could have been housed and fed with 2 billion dollars. I suppose our religious leaders would argue that by stimulating the economy in SLC, homeless people in SLC will be able to find jobs, etc.

No kidding. I suspect if he hadn't shown up, some would have complained about it. A lot more emotion than logic in this discussion.Originally posted by Sullyute View PostI do think that this a seperate and distinct issue from the other City Creek thread.
