my understanding is that it is comprised largely of folks whose "superior intellect" (or lack of social skills) got them kicked off or in perpetual trouble on this board or left to mingle with similarly like minded individuals. They are much more intelligent than any of us lemmings and far more knowledgeable than any of the coaches or church leaders for that matter.

When I used to visit CB there were a few smart folks. I don't think the difference between the two is necessarily about intelligence as much as culture and format. Over there, comments mostly consist of drive-by sarcasm, and there isn't time to call anybody on it or actually develop an argument since the thread will be forgotten within an hour anyway. The mods also ensure that certain topics are either off-limits or whitewashed.

Given the above, it makes sense to me that those who desire more than superficial discussion would prefer CUF.

I have never had an account over at CB but Bill got pretty much everything else right. We would have to reform him about thinking that we all lack social skills (that only applies to the lawyers on this board) but he might be good for CUF. Someone with a CB account invite him over.

yeah I have over 7,000 posts on CB but most people there now probably don't even remember me. I was on that board before it was renamed CB and posted there before Jefe started archiving. My first cyber interaction with many of the posters here began there. The probelm with CB is that the conversation over there is very much drive-by in nature and I don't have the time to keep up with it anymore. The "Staley Got Cut" references got so annoying over there that when someone would bring up a topic that was discussed only an hour ago, they should get shouted down with lame SGC references. At that point I realized that I did not enough time to devote to CB to actually get enjoyment from it. Some people have referred to that site as "twitterboard" and it is probably an apt comparison.

It is nice that the culture and format of this board has allowed me to actually participate in somewhat meaningful discussions. I enjoy it here and I can actually get some work done. We do get full of ourselves at times over here, but the conversations particularly on political and religious topics, are allowed to evolve without moderation and for that I am grateful.

What scares me about cougarboard is that I feel like those folks represent mainstream LDS thinking, and that makes me sad.

The format is like a gigantic college hallway bulletin board that gets covered up in "Buy my Chem 201 book" and "John Birch Society meeting" notes.
