It's interesting to compare the racial history of Canada with the US. Blacks in Canada are mostly from Caribbean roots, with some African refugees. Problems associated with the black community are a fraction in Canada, it's clear that US blacks have suffered prolonged and protracted problems from slavery that persist through generations.

Canada has a far more robust social programs network, so the reflexive conservative accusation that government dependence is the culprit is lacking.

Fortunately, time heals, but it's never as fast as you want, especially healing the persistent dysfunction.

I sense you're jesting, but there's some interesting history on this topic. I work with an apostate Mormon with deep LDS roots who discovered one part of his family tree brought slaves with them from North Carolina, and BY sort of segregated them to the East Millcreek area in SL County, where an enclave of blacks lived.

I, for one, am glad he is done. I don't give a crap about Byu backing up a guy spouting racist doctrine even if it was taught to him by the very institution that is firing him. I would prefer a public denouncement of his racist statements and an official apology to the world for the racist doctrine, but since that isn't going to happen I have to be satisfied with the retirement even it it is hypocritical.
