Bleeding from every pore

I just listened to a lady tell us how Jesus truly bled from every pore, not figuratively. Belabored the topic with a bunch of GA quotes. Was pretty condescending to those of us that believe it was figurative bleeding.

I say, baloney. Suppose there are 1 trillion pores. Bleeding "great drops of blood" from every pore would be 20 drops per mL. 1000 mL per liter leaves us with...50 million liters of blood.

Average human has 5 liters of blood. 1 liter of water is defined as 1 kg. blood and water have similar densities. So, Jesus would have bled 50 million kilos, or 110 million pounds of blood. Imagine Jesus was an awesome 6' 10", that means his BMI is nearly 200 million.

Maybe he only bled from 1000 pores, which would pretty much look like "every pore." And it would only be 50 mL of blood -- that would be very well tolerated.

All abstract theology is ridiculous from a literal, science-based standpoint so this seems like an unusual detail in which to insist on a strictly non-literal interpretation if you're good with the rest of it.

Actually, that line isn't in the later manuscripts of the NT, either; it just says that his sweat was, as it were, great drops of blood. The "bleed from every pore" line comes from the book of Mormon and the D&C.

I believe that God works his miracles through science. It helps me significantly with my faith.

I remember reading about how during the civil war when they would amputate without anasthesia. The pain would be so great a single drop of blood would come from the patients forehead.

I always wondered what type of pain you had ti be in to bleed from every pore.

Seems a little odd to me to accept, on the one hand, the notion that Christ, an immortal being, vicariously took upon himself the sins, pains, heartache and suffering of all generations of mankind; and then on the other hand to question whether he could possibly have emitted some blood from every pore during the performance of such an act.
