    I know I shouldn't feel offended

but no one from Church has called, visited, or come by to see how I'm doing. People knew....the only Church members who have done anything are our neighbors who watched our kids for seven hours on Friday while I was in surgery and recovery. They haven't been to Church in a decade, other than my kid's baby blessing in October. No call to see if I wanted a blessing. No offer to watch the kids. No bringing a meal by. Nothing. Not even an email saying "We're pulling for you, champ."

My wife and I don't feel like we're part of our ward. I'm going to set up chairs and bring casseroles to all these people's funerals in the next decade. I think that's my only utility to them.

you picked the wrong weekend to get a boil... you should have gotten ill at a more opportune time, like in the middle of a ward party or some such.

In all seriousness, I wouldn't have thought to call upon a ward member who has boils on their face. Up until this week, I have never had a play-by-play of the pain and suffering caused by a boil. I don't think I've ever met anyone who has had a boil and I didn't know how serious it really is.

Don't take offense, esp since someone watched your kids for 7 hours. That is a big thing to do right there.

Personally, I often think that some of reasons for ward meals are a bit overboard.

There seems to be a default that when a young married has a baby, she gets meals for about a week. These meals are made by women that have 4 or 5 kids and running an entire household. Doesn't make much sense to me, but ok, I guess.

If you have a boil, can't your wife just bring you a meal?

Don't feel bad Wuap. I once spilled some boil-ing water on myself while cooking and it caused severe burning and no one in the ward or on the board called or contacted me. Of course, I didn't post any photos or tell anyone either as I was still able to walk to the kitchen and feed myself.
          PLesa excuse the tpyos.

We have three small kids and I was actually hospitalized; we have no family within 5 hours of here. No one in my ward knew that the neighbors watched our kids, because they are not part of the ward community.

            To hell with yall.

How many members of your ward were aware of your predicament? Was it posted somewhere? I haven't a clue if anyone in my ward is in the hospital right now.

Well your wife has big knockers so at least you got that going for you.

Hey, I was just being honest. Most people from your ward probably didn't even known you were hospitalized. At any given time, I have no idea what ward members are in the hospital or suffering from illness. Maybe if they announced it in church, but if it's a weekday thing then I wouldn't know. I don't think that's ideal, but it's reality.

Wuap, you're right, you probably shouldn't feel offended, but that doesn't mean you can't feel bad about it. I don't really know what to say, I've never been in a situation like that, but I do know that it sucks when someone isn't all that into you, so to speak, and that kind of sounds like the situation, a lack of reciprocation.

Sounds like you're there to stay, so keep plugging away and remember that the best way to get over hurt feelings is to serve others, move beyond yourself.

As for people ribbing you here, well, I think they're just messing with you and I wouldn't pay any attention to it at all.

I bet if your wife was the one having surgery and in pain there would have been meals brought by and childcare offered. I think most assume that you are not the one taking care of the kids and the meals most days so it would be unnecessary for them to offer those services.

As far as no one visiting, well, that boil was NASTY. Can you blame them for staying away?
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.
