  • Sistine Chapel through new Technology

    http://www.vatican.va/various/cappel..._vr/index.html

You can move around the room and view items up close by using the plus sign in the lower left hand corner.

Topper finds this a beautiful piece of art.
"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

It is full of immodesty. Not fit for latter-day saint consumption. Shame on you for linking to such pornography.

Mr. Rambam, apologies. Do Mormons not like art? Should Topper delete the link? Topper doesn't know if it is offensive to Mormons.

Topper did not know Mormons eschew art, or are Mormons more like Muslims and the form of man is not to be used unless it's a golden man like unto a golden calf?

George is not a Mormon, but is on the Editorial Board at the Church-owned Deseret News. The linked article wants to make pornography illegal and specifically says there should be no carve out for art. This would make the Sistine Chapel illegal (if it, or depictions of it, were to be found in George's jurisdiction).

Yes this is a serious position held by serious people, including many Mormons.

It sounds like there are a lot of uptight, frustrated Mormons. People don't want to see what they can't have. That's a shame.

There are some very interesting panels that you don't normally see in a traditional art history course. I'd like to know more about what some of them represent. For instance, whats up with that guy and the giant fish in the panel right about the second coming mural?
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I am pretty sure its only porn if the chicks are hot, so we are good here.

Plus, why do the dudes have such big penises?

The mural at the front of the chapel with all those people around Jesus is a lot like the art that McNaughton does.

                      http://www.italian-renaissance-art.c...Judgement.html

The Last Judgement by Michelangelo covers the wall behind the alter in the Sistine Chapel. The work depicts the second coming of Christ and, although the artist is clearly inspired by the Bible, it is his own imaginative vision that prevails in this painting ... Unfortunately it was decided that works of art in sacred places had to be modest and a pupil of Michelangelo, Daniele da Volterra, was commissioned to cover the figures nakedness with loincloths and veils. Originally all the figures were naked but da Volterra's intervention earned him the nickname of the maker of breeches.
Inspiration is a funny thing. And it seems sensibilities haven't changed much in the last five or so hundred years. lol

Has the Sistine Chapel discovered a cure for a disease? Ended slavery? Served the poor? Won a Nobel prize? The Robin thinks the Sistine Chapel is decoration that, for most of its existence, has not even been viewable by anyone but the wealthy and politically connected.

After seeing Mormon church buildings, it is no wonder some Mormons such as Robin don't like the Sistine Chapel.
