Debates like this certainly don't make me miss church.
Hey, they don't have debates like this at church!
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

        • I still believe that BYU would eliminate 90% of the negative press and constant grumbling and criticisms of being a pharisaical institution if they just took the dress code out of the honor code and made them two separate things. Changes immediately the implication that is the very thing people are always getting so riled up about. One paper, two signatures, one for the honor code, and one for the dress/grooming code. Problem solved.

Disagree. Seems like an insignificant change.

agreed, if they're going to change it they should just drop it. Given BYU's obsession commitment to its image I doubt that will ever happen. It is what it is, a religious school owned by a religion that is very concerned its members appearance.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. Love this quote from Clark:
“It is true that flip-flops and an unshaven face are not big things. But it is just like the stories of pride and greed in the Book of Mormon; failure to do the small things can, in a short period of time, lead to failure on the big things. Following the rules about the small things establishes a great spirit of obedience on the campus.”
Who in their right mind would wear just flip-flips while at BYUI? There is usually 3+ feet of snow on the ground a good part of the year. And when there isn't snow on the ground the wind is blowing and it is still colder the extreme opposite of hell. Do students that go to BYUI lack common sense? They need to wear socks with those flip-flops...

I'd wear those cause I'd definately like to wear my flip-flops year-round. Would that be a one-way ticket to loserville, or be perceived as a west coast wannabe? Im serious....I really don't know where this falls on the "cool" scale.

                        • these are the worst-looking feet I've ever seen on a poster. Nightmares.

Wear them. And walk into a high end department store. All the looks are probably just jealousy.

                          • I just have to chime in and say that those flip flops on that poster are the cheapest looking pieces of crap I've ever seen-- not fit for a foot prophylactic in a dirty third world shower. Just looking at them is viscerally irritating.
