    What a dumb rule.
I thought it was a pretty standard rule in every ward I've been in.

What a dumb reaction to an harmless invitation to join in a fun event.

Why would the Bishop say that he will defend the Church? It isn't Church policy and he seems to admit that he was in error on that part.

What he should be doing is clarifying that he was wrong but then state his ward's preference for the activity, not that he is going to defend the Church and that if people don't like it, they can stay home.

Really? That a little girl can't go as Harry Potter?

No, not that at all. I don't think anyone would give a rats patootie if a little girl showed up to a halloween party dressed as Harry Potter or Spiderman. It was more the drag queen angle that has been discouraged.

Are you still going to Trunk or Treat?

It was always part of the no mask disclaimer growing up.

Perhaps he should issue a press release to that effect.

Our ward here in Chicago mentioned both the prohibitions against masks and cross-dressing and stated that it was church-wide policy.

But as the rule states, the little kid would be violating the rule.

Maybe it is time to update the wording on the rule? I wonder if the Bishop clarified that little kids could wear whatever costume and that the policy is really just in place to ensure that adults do not look like homosexuals at ward activities.

Ok, we agree that the Bishop should probably not issue a press release.

Maybe so for their ward, but in all the wards I have been in, nobody would care about a girl Harry Potter even if it was announced "no cross dressing".

I think it's sad that a little spiderman girl or JL's freaky, closeted, cross-dressing bishop friend wouldn't be welcomed at a ward's trunk or treat.
