Counting money is a lot harder work than most people realize.

It's not like a real home teaching visit, more like, hey how's it going? Good, I am counting this one!

I don't understand why people are always asking/telling their HT families that they are "counting" small contacts as a visit. The HT family doesn't get a report of how many times their HTs claimed to have visited them that year. If you want to count a small contact, count it. There's no need for any explanation. No one asks you about the substance of your visits.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

More of an inside joke among friends who are both under the rule of a Nazi EQ president and SP demanding a report of 100% home teaching per month. I thought it was more prevalent throughout the church, but I realize it's more of a Utah thing.

            • The father of the inactive family to whom I've been assigned to home teach this past month came by my house. I tossed him a full size Snickers and said, "Hey, while you are here, the ward assigned me to be your home teacher. Should we count this as a visit. ???"

He laughed and said, "You can come by any time."

Don't really know the guy at all.

Anyway, aside from the church aspect, I guess this and a couple of other experiences last night reinforced the community aspect of this holiday.

At first, I thought the 4th of July might be a bigger community holiday what with breakfasts, carnivals, parades, fireworks, etc.

But, really, you don't move door to door and get as much face to face time with neighbors on the 4th as on Halloween.

I enjoy the community aspect of Halloween. I used to hate the holiday, but it's grown on me. I still despise the wuss-basket trunk or treats. I enjoy but am puzzled by women using it as a reason to wear nothing. I don't get the thousands of dollars spent on outdoor decorations. But, I really have grown to like the evening. I enjoy going to the pumpkin patch with the boys and I enjoy spending time carving jack-o-lanterns. I enjoy walking the hood and seeing neighbors and chatting.

I saw no female ward members wearing risque costumes last night. A fact for which I consider myself lucky.

On a related note, women's ward volleyball has recently fired up so get back to me after the stake tournament. I might revisit my so-called "luck" at not having seen any skimpy suits on Halloween!

Actually, my dad (a Utah resident) said it looked like the Halloween costume of choice for women of teenage years or older in his area was slut. Nurse slut, bumblebee slut, doctor slut, Alice in Wonderland slut, but always something slut. Even a couple of plain slut sluts, although maybe he was just driving down State Street in SLC.
