With regard to snip, If I'm older, have my family, and know I don't want any more kids, I guess I don't see the need to pray about it. I'm done. I've made that decision. Unless I think there is a chance we might have a little John the Baptist when we are older, then I probably wouldn't worry about it too much.

In retrospect, I'm not entirely sure whether I prayed about a lot of the traditional big decisions. I don't remember. I knew I wanted to go on my mission, so I didn't pray about whether I should go or whether it was a good idea. I just went. I had a great time. I knew what I wanted to study in school, so I declared my major. I didn't pray about it. I already knew what I liked. Similarly, MMM and I didn't pray about when we should start having kids. We waited until we both wanted to have kids.

Like I said, I might need to pray about more stuff.
To be honest, I approach things much the same way as you. I was just pointing out that I think it is perfectly reasonable for others to go about it that way.

Well, I am sure there are also some men here with wives who have been "snipped." (Can the "snip snip" be colloquial for tubal ligation as well?)
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

My apologies. You're right, but I don't know how to edit my poll.
The snip snip certainly includes tubal ligation.

Now I need to change my vote!

Anyway, my spouse had the procedure immediately after giving birth to our last child (who was a surprise despite counter measures). The last two kids were both high risk pregnancies because of age and gestational diabetes. Additional kids would have been even higher risk as the mother would be well over 40 - I have a nephew who is Downs Syndrome. There wasn't a whole lot of prayer involved because action had to be taken as we already had one unplanned pregancy despite using birth control. Discussing with a Bishop didn't even cross our minds.

I was spared the snip-snip as I had a brother at the time who was having difficulty conceiving with his wife and he approached me about being a donor as his wife adored our children. Soon after the OBYGN (one of my personal heros who got us through a very difficult natural delivery) opined that tube tying after giving birth is a good time because the "shop is already open". This was timely advice.

Not long after our last child was born - my brother called with the good news that they were expecting and that donor services were no longer needed. My wife sensed a conspiracy theory between my brother, the Doc, and myself. I only wished I were so clever. I also appreciated the OBGYN for bringing up the tube tying procedure in such a natural and professional manner. In retrospect, we really needed that medical advice at that point. I'm appalled to think that an orthodox LDS would read the CHOI and think not to do this and then have a bad outcome with the next high-risk birth.

When I do tubals, it is more like, clip clip, burn, clip, tie tie tie tie, snip snip, "right tubal segment", burn burn, unclip unclip, repeat on other side.

So what's the cost of a V? MJ and I are done having kids and this is probably in my near future. Just wondering what the cost is, although I guess the cost doesn't matter since it's probably covered by my insurance (thank US healthcare system!).

Really? What part of my username and avatar left doubt to my identity that would require me to brag about it?

Mine was completely covered by insurance. If you think about it, it it's worth every penny to them to do this.
