What are crown bitches, and when did people start wearing them to prom?Originally posted by Surfah View PostI wore my tux. There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

Kids did this in high school where I grew up, but I refused to follow suit.
They do it in my current ward, but I noticed that the YM fortunately abstain. The alpha male in the crowd probably doesn't do it and the rest follow suit. In the ward I was in before it wasn't the same case. One kid wore a black NBA First Rounder tux with about 4 or 5 buttons along with a black shirt and pink tie. I went up to the kid and called him Silvio and he had no idea what I was talking about.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I haven't seen this here either but, as a side note, there are the homecoming "mums" which I haven't seen anywhere except for Texas and parts of occupied North Texas (aka Oklahoma)...Originally posted by Viking View PostNever saw it once in tx

I've seen prom attire on Sundays "off-and-on" in my neck of the Texas' woods (which is the same as yours). Seems the YM/YW make the call each year. Last year, my son & friends all wore their prom attire as well as another ward in our building. This year I haven't seen any prom attire. So it appears to occur at times but is far from a Texas LDS tradition.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostI haven't seen this here either but, as a side note, there are the homecoming "mums" which I haven't seen anywhere except for Texas and parts of occupied North Texas (aka Oklahoma)...

I'll never understand the homecoming mum thing. My wife and kids just tell me it's one of those "Texas things" that I have yet to comprehend. My wife loves to help our boys make them. A couple of years ago, our son spent more time creating a homecoming mum for his date then he did on preparing for his SAT. Fortunately, he still got into his first choice of colleges and still laughs when recalling that I predicted he would end up at a community college because he was too busy cutting ribbons and arranging flowers to study for a college entrance exam.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

Must be a Utah thing, I've never heard of this tradition but agree that it's kinda silly. I've got to say, though, that I don't think there's anything wrong with spaghetti strap formals. Outside of Utah it's hard to find cute formals with more, and I wouldn't necessarily classify spaghetti straps as totally scandalous. Again, must be a Utah thing.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostMost of the girls were wearing modest frocks that screamed "I have taken my YW lessons very much to heart". Interestingly, two of them are still Miamaids, so evidently they pick and choose which lessons are important. A couple of the girls were wearing somewhat scandalous dresses but had clearly added a sweater to make them slightly more church appropriate. One girl was rocking a tiny little number complete with spaghetti straps and cleavage.
Is Day-After-Prom Day celebrated elsewhere, or is this a local thing?
