We had a guy recently make the point in SS that people will say "I'll die for the church" and then turn around and not accept a calling in nursery. People are funny. I'd much rather do nursery or primary over an admin calling any day of the week."They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.
Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

That always amazed me when people would refuse to sub in nursery. Here you are sacrificing 2+ hours each week to tend their kids while they attend church and they refuse to pitch in and help for one stinking week?Originally posted by DrumNFeather View PostWe had a guy recently make the point in SS that people will say "I'll die for the church" and then turn around and not accept a calling in nursery. Those folks are just intolerable."

I am amazed at the number of people who turn down callings in the primary. For two years we have been trying to stock our primary with teachers and have been unable to. And of course those who have accepted calls are not dependable and routinely miss church without notifying anyone.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostMy wife used to work in the nursery and she would get this excuse occasionally when we were looking for a sub. One time she needed an assistant (I filled in most weeks) but the bishop went weeks without calling someone. When she asked him about it, he said "I am sorry, but I am trying. I have asked about ten people and they all turned me down.""Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

What's there not to love about nursery? Snacks, singing, playing with toys, coloring. My wife and I did that our first 1 or so of marriage. When we got released, it was terrible trying to make it through the block without our snack.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostMy wife used to work in the nursery and she would get this excuse occasionally when we were looking for a sub. "...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

I loved being a Nursery Leader. Kids are funny without the baggage of dealing with adult problems. Plus if you play ring-around-the-roses with them you are their hero. They'll storm the Bastille for you if you just let them know you care. Give me 2 hours of toys, games, songs, and animal crackers versus hearing people wax on about the "end of days" and "evil liberal media and colleges" while quoting passage of the Handbook.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View PostWhat's there not to love about nursery? 3 days into the ban and I am not noticing any overt blessings yet, despite my strict adherance. This may be one of those things where I will only realize them in the hereafter.
On a side note, after discussing this with my wife extensively, we have decided that the ban must have been a result of multiple instances of bad things happening at sleepovers. We have also assumed that this is not just run-of-the-mill WoW stuff but probably involves <hushes vioce> s - e - x, or even something worse.
We are now on high alert for sleepover sickos at church. Any person I find out has hosted or otherwise participated in a sleepover in the past 6 months is on the blacklist. I will keep everyone posted.

It is probably odd when the EQP's wife asks your wife to come stay the night. That probably has happened in Sooners' ward.Originally posted by wally View Post3 days into the ban and I am not noticing any overt blessings yet, despite my strict adherance.
