Straw poll. How many posters on this thread have been responsible for hiring/firing of employees?"The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."
"They talk about the economy this year. Hey, my hairline is in recession, my waistline is in inflation. Altogether, I'm in a depression."

Thanks. I find all of this grousing about this guy losing his job pretty damn funny. Utah is an "at will" state, meaning that I can hire and fire at-will(without cause). So if BYU wanted to fire him for wearing a black belt with brown shoes, they don't have to explain themselves."The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."

Nobody was arguing about the law, just BYU's stated policy.Originally posted by Jarid in Cedar View PostThanks. I find all of this grousing about this guy losing his job pretty damn funny. The rest of us rarely bother to think about our actions." --Solon

I did.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostNobody was arguing about the law, just BYU's stated policy.
Moreover, no one, to date, has stated the actual policy other than a vague quotation in the article. As I suggested, the actual policy is likely founded in the law. The assumption being made here is that the comment by BYU is a personnel matter. I don't see it. The statement is a response to an accusation. That the accusation comes from an employee does not imbue the statement with the characteristics of a personnel matter. Beyond responding to the accusation by noting it is neither accurate nor complete, BYU does NOT make any comments about the employee's personnel matters. Anyone can be a liar, not just your employees, and the statement by BYU does not address any employment duties or the termination, it only responds to the false claims.
Finally, without a clear understanding of the specific policy involved, which none of us have, it is speculation born of seeming bias to conclude that BYU acted unethically. OTOH, it was water tight. So what do I know?PLesa excuse the tpyos.
