I'm really not trying to be obtuse here. I'm asking sincere questions to understand why a missionary can teach adultery===>bad, but the same does not apply to an abortion if it's simply a matter of education. The list cowboy provided would imply there's something more to it.

I'm not sure if you're mocking, but I've had this question for about eight years now. The only answer I've ever gotten is "because." Literally. So, thanks for pointing out I'm idiot enough to miss the obvious answer.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostNo problem. I am sure you really thought long and hard about why someone would ask about an abortion in a baptismal interview.

I know when my old man was Master of Ceremonies in a South American mission, the standard interview included questions about sex with animals.
Have I mentioned I'm glad I went to New Jersey?

Have you seen the women down there? I tell you there is a reason banditos prefer to rape the horses and run off on the women!Originally posted by Senioritis View PostI know when my old man was Master of Ceremonies in a South American mission, the standard interview included questions about sex with animals.

The questions we were told we had to ask in terms of the biggies are as follows: Murder, Abortion, and Homosexuality/Lesbianism.Originally posted by beelzebabette View PostOkay. What else is run up the chain? I know murder is. Is adultery?
That's all I can think of in terms of the biggies back then.
I don't know if it's changed or not.

I vaguely remember asking about felonious crimes apart from murder as well. Anyone else?Originally posted by RockyBalboa View PostThe questions we were told we had to ask in terms of the biggies are as follows: Murder, Abortion, and Homosexuality/Lesbianism.

I once reached this point in the interview and the dude let me know that the church's position on homosexuality was one of the things that attracted him to the faith. He went on to tell me how his marriage had ended when he came home early one day to find his wife in bed with another woman. I think those horses also have better dental hygiene than many of the women on the Jolly Olde Isle.

You're fine. I was just relating what I remember from my mission days. Adultery only came up during the discussion about living the law of chastity."Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't come up with a logical answer. I assume it's because baptism could be denied to a woman, and I don't know what that situation would be. I don't ask it to imply voluntary abortion isn't a big deal. My question remains.

No worries. the part about the woman raises an interesting point. In my mission, We asked both genders whether they had been a party to an abortion. So, in other words, the guy would still be accountable even though he technically did not have an abortion or "perform" the abortion.Originally posted by beelzebabette View PostAll right. We had to be very specific about how we phrased the questions because the Bolivians were crafty. They would bust out their Websters dictionaries and flip to the definition of the word, "lie".......
