The 45-minute ward council "role play" was particularly delightful. The woman playing the RS president was hilariously robotic. She could use more teleprompter practice. Also, I enjoyed the stereotypical hypothetical new member family they discussed--the Garcia family; the dad is a mechanic, and the two sons love to play soccer.

The Exec Secretary sent out an email tonight reminding us of Ward Council Meeting tomorrow. I responded that I didn't know what that was as I have excised the word meeting from my Mormon vocabulary. Someone else responded that he would be there for Ward Council revelatory experience. And our Bishop reminded everyone to bring their scripts if they don't have their parts memorized. It's nice to know that we have some people with a good sense of humor in my ward.

I was just glad to hear that ward has so many delightful inactive families and investigators. I had a good laugh that they've ended the activities committee. Our ward just called about 10 people to that calling. I was really hoping they would add me next.

I thought the ward council "get together" was spot on. I was just as bored as a real one.

I think the whole training session would have been better if Elder Holland did it, and only took an hour.

Just pulled out my notes from the meeting:

- CHOI not to be copied or shared beyond those authorized (cue DDD)
- Book 2 is more principle-based (just like IFRS)
- Book 2 seeks to enhance the role of the Ward Council
- No more EQ helping member move (our EQP walked in 5 minutes after this was said....ugh)
- PEC meeting times should be decreased
- Welfare meeting is no longer held
- Ward Council should focus on strengthening individuals and less time on calendaring
- Ward Council should be held regularly and from 60-90 minutes
- All should speak honestly (I actually liked this one as dissent from authority is not always appreciated or expected but now we have the green light)
- Protect confidentiality of all matters that are private
- No longer an Activities Committee (guess we'll have to find some other calling to stick the active-but-not-willing-to-really-do-anything members....maybe ward missionaries?)
- Must be temple worthy to act as voice in ordinances except baby blessings
- Temple worthiness not necessarily needed to stand in circle for ordinances

Overall I enjoyed the meeting. I even enjoyed the role play ward council. Sure it was cheesy and scripted, but seeing a well run model of a council does more good than harm. I also liked seeing Ruth Todd work it from the bleachers.

Point 1 - not actually what he said. It was more along the lines of the EQ will be asked to do more, if that means things like moving members fall by the way-side, so be it...

My takeaways from the meeting - they're officially catching the CHOI up with instruction that we've been given over the last 3 or 4 years. Take as much pressure off bishops by having EQ and HPG do a lot more than they used to. Just as an example - HPG does all initial church welfare assessments in our ward (probably the stake too, but not positive about that).
