    "Church: Mormons Can't Lead Scouts"

    http://www.charlotteobserver.com/201...ad-scouts.html

I know all the LDS people in this article, which makes me kind of special, I suppose.

Curious.. Why did they not go to the home Ward Scouts group in the first place? Was it based on the fact that the 6 year old could not be involved??

Those cute, cuddly Born Agains. Too bad I still don't live in the South so they can kick me around some more.

How many of our ward-sponsored packs have non-LDS den and pack leaders?

              I had 'em in Texas.

we had a non-LDS den leader in Cub Scouts, and a non-LDS assistant Scoutmaster in Boy Scouts...

That was interesting. I enjoyed the observation, "Mormonism is not consistent with historical Christianity," in light of the fact that the speaker's Presbyterianism would have gotten him burned at the stake for that very reason during millennium prior to 1500 or so.

On the other hand, one can argue that one's religion is a better reason for exclusion from leadership than one's race or sexual orientation, as only the former is a matter of choice and, at least for Mormons, the person is under orders from his demographic to persuade others to join.

Maybe these people are not anti-Mormon. They probably love Mormons, they just want to preserve the traditional definition of "Christian."

Yes, they wanted to have their 6 year old son in Tiger Cubs, or whatever it is called.

We invited a catholic to be a den leader but she declined. She is still involved since her son attends the pack.

I had a nonmember assistant scout leader growing up. His wife and kids were members. The handbook specifically says that Scout Leader is one of the positions that nonmembers may be called to. I was disappointed that the bishop they interviewed in the article didn't clarify that. Otherwise I see this as a non issue.
