Definitely, that was not good from the bishop in the article. He should have said that it is generally a member of the Church, but that it isn't a requirement.

This article reminds me of when my wife applied for a job editing a newsletter for a large Christian Church. It was an advertised job that had a pretty detailed description of the job requirements that didn't say anything about any religious requirement.

When they saw BYU on her resume, they told her that she was ineligible as a non-Christian, but that it wasn't an anti-Mormon thing -- they wouldn't hire a Jew or Muslim either. Obviously a church should have the right to make any kind of arbitrary decision they want to make regarding scout leaders or any other positions in their church. But you would think that our church and other churches would want to reach out to build bridges with those of different faiths through things like Scouting.

Not really comparable, Muslims are obviously not Christian.

You have to be pretty ignorant or biased to not consider Mormons christian.

Without Christ's help and guidance, I know I wouldn't be the loving father or devoted husband or humble man I am today.
Definitely sounds like a humble fella.

My grandparents were both non-members and my grandfather was a scoutmaster for a LDS troop in Idaho for about 25 years. In fact, he received the silver beaver award and would sometimes smoke his pipe on campouts according to my Uncles.

Another interesting story... my grandmother volunteered for the primary while my mother while was growing up because her daughter (my mother) went with her LDS friends to primary. One day Elder David O. Mckay was creating a new stake in area and dropped in on my grandmother to ask her if she would serve in the stake primary presidency. Apparently she was highly recommended by the new stake primary president. My grandmother told me that she was very impressed with David O. Mckay so she took the job.

Yes, I noticed the same thing. When I read the article I mentioned that to my wife. The Bishop used to be our home teacher, so we know him pretty well. He's a great guy, and a very smart guy, but not a PR guy.

On the front page of CNN today:

                http://www.cnn.com/2010/OPINION/10/2...der/index.html

I couldn't help but chuckle after reading the two headlines. The Mormon church has spent millions to support measures that discriminate against gay people in the name of God -- and here is a Mormon couple being booted out of a thinly veiled Christian organization accusing them of having a different god. I would call it karma, but that would only introduce a third god and I think the conversation is confusing enough.

Out of curiosity, did the rejected Mormon couple sue anyone?

Not that I have heard. It's interesting that despite the media attention this has gotten very little buzz around the Mormon community here so far. It is the ward right next to ours, but I haven't had anyone comment on it. I was with several people from that ward a couple of nights ago and no one mentioned anything. Maybe it is just because we haven't had a Sunday yet.
