  • What is the purpose of life?

In one or two sentences, what do you think is the purpose of life? I'm more interested in individuals' unique perspectives rather than some official church position, so even if the official church position is your own position, if you could take a moment to personalize it by expanding on it a bit, that would be nifty.

The purpose of life according to Robin:

The purpose of life is to maximize pleasure and happiness through the peaceful development of culture, community and meaningful relationships with friends and family.

I think the purpose of life is maximize joy, knowledge and understanding for oneself and to bring about the same in the lives of as many others as possible. And also too perpetuate the species.

Prove ourselves worthy to return to live with our Heavenly Father.

        This is easy.

To gain a physical body and to learn the difference between choosing good and evil.

"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

To gain knowledge and compassion and use that for the strengthening of families and betterment of society as a whole.
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

The purpose of life this life we currently find ourselves in, is to gain a baseline knowledge of how pitiful we are in this Telestial existence, graduating from our first two iterations of intelligence and spiritual children of Heavenly Parents. The Millenium will be to gain a baseline of how pitiful the Terrestial existence is. Through personal trials and tribulations of these progressive kingdoms, we will gather enough data, that we will be able to appreciate the benefits of Celestial living.

If String Theory holds out, we will have the added benefit of living in multiple dimensions at the same time, gathering trillions of data points enabling us to eventually become like our Godly Father. (concept thrown in for fun, not necessarliy a tenant of my faith. But it does make sense to gather as much intel as possible.)

To experience the world, improve as a person, grow our talents, and positively impact the lives of as many other people as possible.

DOesn't the question assume God? And are you asking for The purpose of LIFE, or just the purpose that any one of us has given to our own life. IOW, most of these sound morelike goals rather than the purpose of life.

If one doesn't assume God (or some sort of plan beyond ourselves) how can we conclude that the purpose of life is anything other than to pass on DNA?
                      PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I agree that the question assumes God, and my answer reflects what I think the purpose of our existence embodies.

This is a really interesting question. I'm surprised that I'm struggling with articulating an answer.
