The problem with those rankings is that there's a diversity of belief concerning what makes a good LDS family environment, and what doesn't.

I don't think I'd particularly care to raise my Mormon family in any of the places on that list, nor would my wife.

The book "Best Places to Raise an LDS Family" rates and ranks 361 communities according to LDS values and lifestyles. Nearly 100 data sets-mostly from government and nonprofit sources-are broken into seven broad categories: LDS Culture, Education, Crime, Economic Environment, Health, Household Characteristics, and Housing. The data are then weighted according to LDS values (for instance, teen smoking rates are weighted more heavily than cost of a four-bedroom home), and communities are then ranked from best (No. 1) to worst (No. 361) in each category and overall.

It shouldn't be a surprise, then, that the top four communities that most closely align with LDS values and lifestyles are in Utah: Provo-Orem, St. George, Logan and Ogden-Clearfield.

I wonder if they factored in foreclosure rate, the (ab)use of prescription drugs, and density of MLM companies.

The criteria was flawed, and I bet the author never even went to the cities in person. How could a person rank Bend, and Corvallis, over Medford, Eugene, or Beaverton in the State of Oregon. Medford is easily the best place to raise an LDS fmaily in the State of Oregon. It has it's own Temple for goodness sakes! Bend is 3 hours from a Temple.

Based on the title, it appears that Mormon Times concedes that raising a family IN Utah is a horrible idea.

So do they lump in Rexburg with Idaho Falls because it should be in there somewhere. Rexburg is Utah with more snow and wind but without the traffic and the terrible need to try and one up your neighbor.
