I was on mission when Gordon mentioned calling. I did know of one couple that thought they were overworked so stopped coming to church after I left the area. Were a recent convert. Any case I think wheat from Tare is seperated. Jacob De Jager passed out hymnbooks his first week. Some want to be put to work.

And for friends this is classic, anyone remember the talk Marlin gave some time ago when he said don't assign me friends. In a vain attempt to set me up someone said can you just be friends. I remembered that talk about assigning friends. I did live next door to Presbyterian Church when I lived in Rexburg. Thought of visiting it never set foot in it though. Did cause football to hit there sign a few times though while playing on college avenue.

In my ward most PH holders wears suits and that includes the APH. When 12-17 year old kids come to church as investigators they feel out of place and they either conform or they don't come back.

I really wish we would be more lax on the uniform of the PH and on the whole Sunday dress for this matter. It won't change what I wear, but it will promote diversity among the ward and investigators will be able to blend in better and feel more comfortable. I'm sure they feel awkward being the only person wearing a polo in the whole congregation.
I went to sacrament meeting yesterday and was reminded of this thread/post. After the sacrament was passed the SP took over because we were getting a new bishopric. The first thing he said when he got to the mic, in a very slow and serious voice, was, "I want to thank the Aaronic Priesthood for all wearing white shirts. I want to take all of you over to the 10th ward to show the Melchizedek Priesthood there what the priesthood uniform is supposed to be." I was wearing a green shirt and tie and just kind of rolled my eyes, but I wondered how the wife of some close friends of ours felt about it. They were sitting of few rows in front of us and it's all she can do to get her inactive husband to attend services. He happened to be there with her yesterday wearing no tie and a short sleeve green shirt. Sure, our friends can just deal with it, which they will, but I don't get why the SP would say something like that. The white shirt/priesthood uniform thing isn't in the CHOI is it?

I think it's in Book 2 in that it states that white shirts are to be "encouraged" (that might not be the right word but it's close) but it goes out of its way to emphasize that being neat and clean is the only requirement (this is from memory so I might be off). I'll have to double check this sometime. I do know that during GC talks, white shirts have been defined as the uniform of the PH.

I will offend some by saying this, but in my opinion, one of the most damaging conference talks in recent years was "The Unspoken Order of Things" by Boyd K. Packer.

It might as well have been labeled "A Mormon Mullah's Guidebook!"

I Googled "Jesus with a white shirt and tie" and found this:

Our SP would not have been too pleased with Jesus the day that picture was taken.

I know it as "What Elder Packer Thinks Are the Unwritten Crap" BYU Devotional talk.

It wasn't a conference talk, but my then-SP got hold of a very poor fax/copy of it and passed it out to everyone in a stake priesthood leadership meeting. I remember thinking, "If this is the best copy we can get, then there is probably a reason why these things are not spoken or written anywhere else."

It looks like he si trying to wrench the tray from a recalitrant deacon. But I like your interpretation better, given that it is untainted but your prickly little ute.
