I think I know what you're going through, Tim. Ironically, the only way I've been able to stay active is to ditch a lot of my former beliefs. Some people think I'm a hypocrite, but there are lots of reasons to stay in the LDS faith, even if "absolute surety in its correctness" is not one of them.Originally posted by Tim View PostIt would only be ironic if I hadn't already admitted in this thread that I can be a dick at times. Robin told you to "stand up" to bullies. While I endorse his post for the most part, make sure you're really being bullied. I remember there were times when I felt I was being jerked around, but in reality, I was a little hypersensitive. You may not be that way (just throwing it out there), but I didn't think I was that way either until someone pointed out to me that maybe in response to certain zealots, I had become overly zealous myself.
But honestly, we need opposing viewpoints in the Church, so I hope you can find your niche and enjoy the great things Church has to offer (and tolerate the warts).Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

No, I read that. And you simply turned your wrath on Indy (unfairly so, IMO) and just kept pounding away.Originally posted by Tim View PostIt would only be ironic if I hadn't already admitted in this thread that I can be a dick at times. You must not've read that part.
You are a good man, Tim, but this thread isn't one of your finer moments. You may want to take a breather (a friendly suggestion - not a threat from the admin)."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

I don't really feel like I'm on my way out. I love my branch here in Tokyo, for example. I enjoy serving in the church. I think I've just had to do the same thing you've done, which is decide that there are certain things that I just don't believe, and be okay with that. What makes me think about all this is that I look at the way things are going in the culture of Mormonism, I see the direction the people are heading in, and I wonder how I'll ever fit in with those people. That makes it hard to see a future in the church.Originally posted by RedSox View PostI think I know what you're going through, Tim. I would only need a breather if I were somehow uncalm or agitated. I'm not, though. I'm just talking. Fine if you disagree with me about Indy, but that doesn't mean I need a breather. Indy brings this kind of response on himself by his inability to enter a single thread without holstering his guns and being peaceful.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostNo, I read that. Actually, the more I think about it, what's really funny is that Indy tells me that if I leave the church it's no one's fault but my own. It's not the church's fault, not CUF's fault, not Eddie Jones' fault, etc. It's my fault if I leave the church. But at the same time, it's everyone else's fault that he gets so misunderstood. If he offends anyone it's their fault, not his. Maybe THAT'S the irony you should be focusing on, not the irony of Tim that didn't even really exist.Last edited by Tim; 09-08-2010, 09:35 AM.Visca Catalunya Lliure

Earnestly
1. Let us oft speak kind words to each other
At home or where’er we may be;
Like the warblings of birds on the heather,
The tones will be welcome and free.
They’ll gladden the heart that’s repining,
Give courage and hope from above,
And where the dark clouds hide the shining,
Let in the bright sunlight of love.
[Chorus]
Oh, the kind words we give shall in memory live
And sunshine forever impart.
Let us oft speak kind words to each other;
Kind words are sweet tones of the heart.
2. Like the sunbeams of morn on the mountains,
The soul they awake to good cheer;
Like the murmur of cool, pleasant fountains,
They fall in sweet cadences near.
Let’s oft, then, in kindly toned voices,
Our mutual friendship renew,
Till heart meets with heart and rejoices
In friendship that ever is true.
Text: Joseph L. Townsend, 1849–1942
Music: Ebenezer Beesley, 1840–1906“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

He will surely pass
When the one that left us here
returns for us at last
We are but a moment's sunlight
fading in the grass
*Come on people now
smile on your brother
everybody get together
try to love one another right now
If you hear the song I sing
you will understand...listen
You hold the key to love and fear
all in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both

LA Ute does try to assume a mother-type role here. One that gives her kids a complex through guilt trips and passive-aggressive behavior. That kind of mother.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostMy mom would always bust out that song when we were fighting at home. It didn't really help.

JoyfullyOriginally posted by Clark Addison View PostOne of my least favorite songs in the book.
1. There is sunshine in my soul today,
More glorious and bright
Than glows in any earthly sky,
For Jesus is my light.
[Chorus]
Oh, there’s sunshine, blessed sunshine
When the peaceful happy moments roll.
When Jesus shows his smiling face,
There is sunshine in the soul.
2. There is music in my soul today,
A carol to my King,
And Jesus listening can hear
The songs I cannot sing.
3. There is springtime in my soul today,
For when the Lord is near,
The dove of peace sings in my heart,
The flow’rs of grace appear.
4. There is gladness in my soul today,
And hope and praise and love,
For blessings which he gives me now,
For joys “laid up” above.
Text: Eliza E. Hewitt, 1851–1920
