            I laughed at an Amazon review that claimed it was considered scientific back in Joseph's day, so kc responded that the people he has worked with always use them as a last effort before drilling. Whether they work out not has no bearing on the attitude towards them at the time though, imo.

                        Just to add to the anecdotes, I worked for farmers doing odd jobs for several summers during my teenage years. This was in the corn belt. Several of those farmers swore by the method as well for finding groundwater. They called it water witching. It sounds like bunk to me, but then sane people like cowboy and these farmers tell me it works for them. I find it fascinating.
