I’ve gone from hating the change to liking it to being ambivalent. I don’t care anymore. I just want god to make up his mind on church meetings. I will say that this will make filling time when a EQ teacher doesn’t prepare much easier.

"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

My wife is not a fan. She wants to go back to 3-hour church.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostMy wife is freaking out about this change. I think it will be fine.
https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/...youth?lang=engOriginally posted by The_Tick View PostI don't like the change at all. Not that that matters...but we have some fantastic lessons and pretty deep discussions in the Priest Quorum. Between prayers, AP theme, mobile sacrament assignments, Mutual discussion...I may only have 10-12 minutes of lesson time. Can I teach a lesson in that time? Sure. Are we going to be able to have a meaningful discussion about topic items? Probably not. So as someone mentioned....these are about to become messages, not lessons.
I will be curious to see the new FSoY manual that I will be teaching out of.
Having YM/YW every other week made going out of town for stuff fairly easy. We planned it on the off weeks. Didn't need to find a sub. Farming season is in full swing here. We have lost half of our leadership for the next 6 months to work stuff. This wont really impact us this year, but it will impact us next year.
Let's see how it goes."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

I like the change. YM/YW leaders getting to see the youth each week instead of every other week is going to be very helpful for connection and creating a meaningful bond. It will also make it easier for tracking when youth aren't coming regularly. And I think 15 mins is the perfect about of time to teach a gospel principle and drill down on it sufficiently.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

I've had callings with both the Sunday school (teacher) and Elder's Quorum (counselor) since the change to the two hour block. In both cases, we used, and probably needed, the full hour. I think it will be tough to do anything productive with either half of the second hour.
That said, Sunday School being held every other week meant that you covered less than half of the scriptures you were supposed to be studying. As much as we'd love to think otherwise, the instruction going on at home is not covering the gaps.
Hopefully bishops take seriously the language saying that sacrament meetings can be held to 60 minutes or less. One youth speaker, musical number/hymn, and one adult speaker is all you need. End at five to, or even ten to, so people get to the next room.

My only callings since the switch to 2-hour church are Sunday School teacher (for youth in high school), and my current callings of Family History Consultant, and Primary teacher - both of which are with my wife. This change doesn't really affect either of my current callings.Originally posted by All-American View PostI've had callings with both the Sunday school (teacher) and Elder's Quorum (counselor) since the change to the two hour block. The Sunday School teacher calling was pretty cush. I had a co-teacher that wasn't my wife, so we would alternate lessons. With only having Sunday School every other week and only having to teach every other class, I was typically only having to prepare a lesson once per month. My son was in the class and sometimes my daughters would get combined in even though they were in the middle school class at the time. I expected that they hated when I was teaching but they told me they actually preferred my lessons to what they would get from their regular teacher(s). I think part of that was because I only had to do one lesson per month.
We've been doing 25ish minute lessons in our Primary class for the last couple of years and, while the time flies by, it's definitely still possible to have fun, get to know the kids, and actually get in some spirituality, too. But it does require more focus."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"
