Doesn’t your ward call RS teachers?

    • I'm just glad I don't have to try to figure out what class we're having each week. I don't know if it was the one weekend a month military drill or just the way my brain is wired. I could never wrap my head around it

      • I only do the 2d hour once every 3 years anyhow when I get to attend my own ward. Maybe it'll be more tolerable now.

        • I'm happy with the change. I like teaching youth sunday school, but lessons every other week are rough. The hour block was always a bit too long and there's almost zero retention meeting 1-2x/month. This will be great.

Bruh, have you not been a student of BP’s posts? His family makes up most of the ward!

I'm talking about that teaching method during the lesson that involves taking an assigned topic, or set of scriptures, or whatever, discussing some aspect of it with the people nearest you, and then every group takes turns reporting the results of their discussion with the rest of the class. It's my least favorite classroom activity.
I hate that too. Lazy teaching technique.

Ah, gotcha. I hate that too. Lazy teachers will still use it to take up a bunch of time that they don’t have to prepare anything for.

My wife teaches RS, and is concerned that this will limit time for class comment and participation.

Also, if RS and EQ are still going to base lessons on GC talks, having class every week will mean going through almost every talk every 6 months, but at a superficial level due to limited time.

                • My wife is freaking out about this change. I think it will be fine.

Me, an EQP in a Montreal city ward struggling to find anyone besides the presidency to teach lessons: hey, I bet Daniel who does MLM and doesn't have regular job hours has time to prepare for a meaningful lesson. I'll ask him!

Daniel: Divide the quorum into three groups and discuss the lesson topic until 10 minutes before the bell. Then appoint someone in your group to summarize the discussion. Then I'll close.

Me: that didn't go the way I had envisioned. Maybe I'll give Daniel another chance since he still does MLM and has time during the week to prepare a good lesson.

                      Daniel: hold my beer.

She is currently one of them. RS has an attendance of like 6.

As I sat in the Jack in the Box in Bishop, CA for lunch last week, I wondered if we were close to your meetinghouse.

Note: JITB was the first thing we saw getting into town from the south, but I wish I’d held out for the BBQ place or the local sandwich place (Schaat’s?) once we got back on the road.

                          • It just hit me. This change will likely bring back the Ringing of the Bells.

                            • I don't like the change at all. Not that that matters...but we have some fantastic lessons and pretty deep discussions in the Priest Quorum. Between prayers, AP theme, mobile sacrament assignments, Mutual discussion...I may only have 10-12 minutes of lesson time. Can I teach a lesson in that time? Sure. Are we going to be able to have a meaningful discussion about topic items? Probably not. So as someone mentioned....these are about to become messages, not lessons.

I will be curious to see the new FSoY manual that I will be teaching out of.

Having YM/YW every other week made going out of town for stuff fairly easy. We planned it on the off weeks. Didn't need to find a sub. Farming season is in full swing here. We have lost half of our leadership for the next 6 months to work stuff. This wont really impact us this year, but it will impact us next year.

                              Let's see how it goes.

I work right across the street from JITB.

Great Basin is the best bakery. The BBQ place in Big Pine is the best one in the area.
