The "Ground Zero Mosque" and Mormonism

I have been thinking about your Mountain Meadows analogy and I am not so sure it is one we ought to promote. If you look at it from a different angle, it gets interesting. Suppose the Muslims adopted all of the orphans from 9/11 and started to raise them as Muslims. Then they obstructed the investigation for years, ultimately manipulating the legal system to ensure that only one of the terrorists was ultimately convicted. Then they distorted, and in many cases lied about what happened for decades, blaming it on <insert third party group here>. Then when one of their own does some digging and exposes the truth, they issue a fatwa against this person. Along the way they purchase the ground zero property and erect their own monument describing what happened. Finally after more than a century, they issue a formal "statement of regret", but still hang on to the property.

Hmmm.... Yeah, let's not go there.

I say let them build the mosque. They own the land and can build whatever they want to build on their property.

Of course, they need to be told that if one single known terrorist is seen walking in or out of the mosque, it will get blown to hell.

On second thought, Fearless Leader has shown that he is a terrorist sycophant, so the mosques is most likely safe. But it would be a fair consequence if it is leveled because it allows terrorists to enter.

I guess I am not seeing the parallel between the proposed mosque and Reed Smoot's seating in the Senate. But I do recommend Kathleen Flake's book. It's terrific.

I read, and have not tried to confirm, that part of the furor over the mosque is derived from the City of New York trying to create financial incentives to build this house of worship elsewhere but the organization thumbed their nose at the offer. Has anyone else here heard this portion of the story? As a related question, does such information matter?
