But if you have a population of literalists at hand, you prove your point using the scriptures that support it. I can make the Bible and BOM say most anything in class. If you let me use general authorities from the time of Joseph Smith I can make black white.

Brian, I love investigators in my class (and they are the reason I use the bible much more than the BOM when given a choice - it is often familiar to them). I have long thought that the one requirement to attend is that you don't smoke inside the building.
My ward won't let people who are intoxicated be in church, even if they aren't misbehaving.

      Yeah, those imbeciles!

Of course you could always make the argument that Paul was not really an apostle in the same sense of the calling that was given to Peter, James, John, etc. It is interesting though that we hang on some small verses of Pauls in regards to kingdoms and baptism for the dead, but we toss out others that don't fit into our doctrine. Well, maybe it's not so interesting...

Probably not as interesting as the cherry picking that went on in deciding what was or wasn't included in the Bible to begin with.

And yet we have a fascination with linking all our doctrines back to the Bible/BoM/D&C/PoGP.....just one eternal round.

The doctrine never changes, so long as you can creatively interpret words of dubious origin.

It was a very physical reminder that all are welcome, warts and all. Whether our warts be visible, or not.
The second counselor in the EQP smokes. We have never talked about it, but he smells pretty strongly when he first gets there on Sunday mornings. I am just glad he is there.

Also, with the theme of the thread, I learned that I can get someone to church who hasn't been there in years if I text them during the playoff games the week before and invite them.

                • I completed the high priest trifecta today: falling asleep in sacrament, Sunday school, and priesthood.

                  • Our YM take the Sacrament to the local old folks home and with the new church schedule, they don't get here in time to blesd and pass the Sacrament. So the Elders and HP do it.

It was amusing to hear the Stake Patriarch orate the Sacrament prayer today.

Walking around the halls with Hawk during priesthood hour today, I looked in the window of the HP room. You would fit in well in our ward.

Me: everyone, stand up, tell us your name, favorite food, and something you don't like.
Jenna: my name is Jenna. I love pizza. My least favorite thing is asparagus.
Me: a lot of people don't like asparagus. I used to dislike it when I was your age.
Jenna: my mom makes me eat it but I think it's gross. My dad says my mom cant cook so we get to eat pizza a lot.
Me: do you like your moms cooking?
Jenna: no. Unless she buys pizza.
                        Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

                            • I learned that not all High Priests are interested in learning about Type I and Type II errors so that we could use the concepts in relation to Personal Revelation.

I fail to reject the hypothesis that praying doesn't work.
