      • Elder Perry spoke during our regional conference here in Idaho. He complimented Idaho quite a bit and said that Boise was a place he liked a lot. Everyone in attendance was flattered until he said that his other favorite location is Sacramento.

        • There are more financial blessings attached to the commandment to keeping the Sabbath day holy as there are to the law of tithing. Yeah, we got some great prosperity doctrine today

            • I walked out of HPG today. Mindless correlated jibber jabber, accentuated by a "we need you in the clerk's office."

Is this the beginning of the end for me?

              • The sisters in our Ward are really good. At the risk of becoming really uncool on CS, we had the missionaries over on Friday to teach a discussion to my best friends wife. The sisters were awesome. They had another discussion today and my friend texted me that she is going to be baptized on March 21st.

Now I'm doomed to a lifetime of sitting at the nerd table on CS for not telling her all the awful things about the church.

Um, that's like 3 weeks away, which gives you plenty of time to introduce her to peep stone and polyandry.

No doubt this investigator is well aware of john Dehlin, Kate Kelly, and related podcasts?

I suggested that in lieu of a discussion we just listen to a Dehlin podcast and discuss afterwards, the main problem was I was the only one who had ever heard of Dehlin and had no idea what his podcast is called. So we just went conventional discussion.

                      • I learned in church today

Our WML had all the YM combine today so he could present the ward mission plan. It ended up being 45 minutes of heavy-handed guilt tripping, including a bizarre story of how he ignored a prompting and didn't invite a friend to come to church when he was 17, and how that guy joined the Presbyterian church just a few months later and has been an active Presbyterian ever since. He thinks about that and regrets it every day.

Then he had some of the boys read scriptures about angels, and helped us conclude that angels exist to testify of Christ, and that angels don't appear to people anymore because we have the truth and should be the ones testifying of Christ. I actually choke-cough-laughed when he said "Angels don't appear to show you where some gold treasure is buried. "

He concluded with a bizarre rant about how the most important thing about HF and JC appearing to Joseph Smith wasn't that they appeared, but that the HG was there to testify to JS. He went on to discuss hypotheticals about what might have happened if the HG hadn't been there to convince JS to listen to HF and JC. Seemed like a really strange point to make and a super bizarre way to make it.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

I think you're cool. Just promise me that when you leave the church and everyone thinks you're cool again you won't leave a flaming bag of poop on my porch.
