Donations made directly to the Church are held in the strictest confidence. They are processed directly by Church headquarters, and do not show up on any ward records in MLS. If any of the funds are directed to the Ward Missionary or Fast Offering categories, they will show up on the Unit Financial Statement with a 4-digit reference number. For all other categories, details regarding dollar amounts are not available."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? If this is the case, your year end statement may eventually come through the ward, even though you are paying directly to HQ. I have no idea if this is really the case, but my ward clerk was talking about something like this last week.I'll be curious to see how things link up eventually too - with the membership number on the donations slips now.Originally posted by pellegrino View Postif that is the case then I will be very very upset. If they're going to insist on doing that then I think we have the right to know what they are doing with it.
I know that we've had relatives help pay for the mission of a nephew or grandchild who are from different wards/stakes in a different state. What I've heard speculated is that by linking numbers, those donations would show up at their home ward rather than needing to be mailed from ours.
In another development, I heard from our clerk recently that the church sent a pdf (that looked different than the typical year end statement) that had the donations for a number of folks who had moved into our ward for the time prior to them moving into our ward (does that make sense?) He said it indicated what ward the donations were made in - so now I'm curious if donations directly to SLC will also show up on these, or if it is only donations paid to a unit.

Yeah, but that labor is all free.Originally posted by Jacob View Post
Ha. What a ridiculous complaint. Extra man hours for some data entry church employee? Compared to the extra manpower required to hand a check to the bishop, who hands it to the clerk. How makes a deopsit slip and enters it in the computer, who takes it to the bank, and then someone at HQ still has to balance the bank account."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. OMG!Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI am on my phone (DIA free wifi!) so I can't find the link, but setting it up literally took just a few minutes. There is a church website that explains it. I took the account details and just created another entry associated with LDS donations on my credit union online billpay system and that was it. I did a small donation to test it and it worked like a charm. They email you a PDF receipt with every donation. Now paying tithing is just as simple as paying the phone bill. Privacy is an added bonus.
What am I going to do with all these blank Disney Character Checks?

to clarify, you can cross out the "19" and I would have totally presided over my wife's choosing of the check backgrounds had power tools or something more manly been available. I'm guessing that pictures of lathes and belt sanders wasn't a top seller.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostDo they still have the pre-printed 19__ on them?

There's a discussion on this in a thread where I think I even linked the form you fill out to do it."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. Good. Now take it up a step... pay with stock. Besides the tax benefits (no capital gains tax) the receipt you get from the church office is no in dollar amounts but rather in the number of shares of stock. So if your SP asks about your tithing payments you can simply state, "Yeah, I paid with gifts in kind. You know, like chickens, wheat, and other stuff I had laying around the house."Originally posted by nikuman View PostThe nikuman family. A rather inappropriate line of questioning related to finances and tithing took place during a temple recommend interview with SHW (it involved the SP) so the ability of the stake to know anything about my finances will be removed. Amen. If the chuch has to hire more data processors, so be it. Faithful local members are burdened enough.Originally posted by nikuman View PostYeah, right? Burden the guy who gets paid to do it or the local volunteer who is my friend and already has a full time job? I know my choice!
