  • I learned that our stake president thinks it's irreverent to take the sacrament in to the foyer, so instead of anyone taking their noisy children out during the sacrament, everyone just sits there with their wailing children until the sacrament is over.

Gotta make sure the heathens that are 15 minutes late don't get in to the kingdom of God as well.
Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

    • I learned there was a study at BYU that found the BOM is among the most effective texts on the planet for teaching kids how to read.

I nearly spit coke all over my keyboard when I read that. Awesome.

You know what, I might actually agree with this. The words and language is so convoluted that I'd say if you can read hte BoM then you can read pretty much anything. My just-turned-5 year old's reading comprehension is really starting to take off and we've only helped him read in the BoM during family scripture study. It's actually amazing to see him read some of the larger words. He can now get through about 2/3 of a verse on his own, but we still have to help him with words like "stiffnecked" and "Korihor".
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

            Yeah, that'd work.

If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

I'm sure this is true of an awful lot of Mormon kids. Mine included. But that doesn't make it "most effective". If families spent as much time reading stuff designed to help kids learn how to read as they do in family scripture study I am sure there are more effective ways to do that.

But as a "killing two birds with one stone thing" I do think it's great.

              • My choice of a grey and silver tie this past Sunday, led to my overhearing some surprising comments about it.

What makes you think you learned spanish at an accelerated pace? Or are you being facetious?

                              • Today I learned that prepositions can have a past tense. As in, "the pioneers came acrossed the plains.". This is totally acceptable in both prayers and trestimonies. I don't think I've ever heard this particular word bastardization anywhere other than here in Utah.
