Yeah these smaller temples really don't make any more of a splash than a stake center- if that. If the Church is building a temple in Elko, Nevada, you can rest assured they've already run the numbers before you go rending your garments.

With $100b+ burning a hole in their pocket they got to do something?

In all honesty, I'm sure there is a devote Mormon population there and probably many of teh other small towns that will gladly fill the temple. Plus, these small temples are only open a couple days a week. These things aren't like the Provo temple with 100+ patrons in a session every 20 minutes.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I hardly ever get to the LV temple and is only 45 minutes from my house. You think people in Elko are going to drive regularly to SLC or Reno?
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Why bulls stake centers in Elko when they have one in Reno?

I served in the Belo Horizonte mission so I'm really excited about that temple. BH is the 3rd largest city in Brazil but close enough to Sao Paulo that smaller cities (that were way farther away) got temples already, like Recife and Manaus. BH is about 10 hours away from SP by bus IIRC.

BH also has/had a lower per capita membership than a lot of Brazil. I think it's kind of known for having a lot of Evangelicals. That's why I was called there; to turn the tide . It's good to see the fruit of my labors a mere 21 years later!

Yes. How many years has it been since The Church became majority non-USA? Thank goodness the central leadership is starting to reflect that in a significant fashion. Get ready for even more of this.

God forbid Saints outside the U.S. should tune in to listen to speakers that actually look and sound like then and speak to their lives' experiences.

I have a very self-satisfied look on my face right now.
              Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Yeah, you kind of missed the point. By kind of, I mean completely.

You know, it is so nice to be disconnected from the Ex-Mo and Prog-Mo communities. I have no clue what the outrage is from this weekend and don't give a damn to find out.

My daughter told me she was going to take credit for the diverse choirs during Sunday morning.

She was asked to participate in a focus group regarding the TABCATS a while ago. She says she was the only woman there, along with a bunch of middle aged white guys. Someone asked the group if they felt that TABCATS did a good job of representing the church. All of the white dudes said "Yes!" with a variety of descriptions of why TABCATS is great.

Her response was - TABCATS is a great choir and she loves their music. But, if they're asking if TABCATS does a good job representing a global church - probably not. Obviously their membership is somewhat limited by where we are located, which impacts diversity. But TABCATS is not a very diverse choir.

So she's taking credit for the change.

No offense, Copelius - the TABCATS songs over conference were great too!

What? TABCATS is very diverse. You've got white guys with lots of hair on their heads, and white guys with no hair on their heads, and even two white guys with mustaches!

How long does it usually take for the church to make the conference talks publicly available?

usually wednesday before they break them up individually.

Which talks from Saturday (all sessions) and Sunday morning are most worth watching/reading?
