I don't have a link because nobody except kooks and yokels is studying "historicity of the Book of Mormon." It's not happening anywhere. The reasons should be obvious to anyone but a kook or a yokel. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

I Googled and, similarly, have not found any links refuting the authenticity of Hobbits. I'll keep looking.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostI don't have a link because nobody except kooks and yokels is studying "historicity of the Book of Mormon." It's not happening anywhere. So wouldn't the logical follow-up be that anyone who believes the Book of Mormon to be true historical (small "h", since few would ever claim its purpose to be merely a historical text) document is either a kook or a yokel? If I'm forced to choose I'm going with yokel, it feels closer to my natural roots?Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostI don't have a link because nobody except kooks and yokels is studying "historicity of the Book of Mormon." I am more of a kook, myself. Kooky people can also be fun at beach parties, so I would also have that going for me.Originally posted by Art Vandelay View PostSo wouldn't the logical follow-up be that anyone who believes the Book of Mormon to be true historical (small "h", since few would ever claim its purpose to be merely a historical text) document is either a kook or a yokel? "Honest investigators will conclude that there are so many evidences that the Book of Mormon is an ancient text that they cannot confidently resolve the question against its authenticity"
I guess we can go ahead a call bull on this, no one has presented any evidence for the BoM.

When I was a kid, we had a book titled "The Book of Mormon on Trial". That book was full of evidence. I don't remember exactly what the evidence was, but I'm sure it was compelling.Originally posted by LogMafia View Postguess we can go ahead a call bull on this, no one has presented any evidence for the BoM.Last edited by Non Sequitur; 07-12-2010, 05:30 PM."The mind is not a boomerang. Plus, Nicola Tesla is a vampire. (I love Sanctuary.)Originally posted by Ted Nugent View PostActually, Tesla's and Edison's light bulbs were different. They had to be. Edison had a patent on the light bulb. Tesla's light bulb was after Edison's. In fact, Tesla worked for Edison before that. Tesla's light bulb was simply different in how it connected to the power socket. It didn't screw in.
I read somewhere that Edison really didn't invite the light bulb first. Some English guy did.
Tesla did came up with the generous idea of using A/C for power distribution. Edison was pushing his D/C crap.
Anyway, what was this thread about again?

Everything I know about Nicola Tesla I learned from The Prestige. Ziggy Stardust to Nicola Tesla -- now that's a career arc.Originally posted by SoCalCoug View PostPlus, Nicola Tesla is a vampire. It was Edison's opposition to alternating current and his assistant's experiments in electrocution that led to old sparky.Originally posted by Ted Nugent View PostActually, Tesla's and Edison's light bulbs were different. Entertaining thread. Good stuff.
The Book of Mormon is really interesting and inspiring -- parts of the BOM deserve to be called scripture as much as any other sacred book, in my opinion. Joseph Smith was a religious genius.
But it seems self-evident that the BOM is not a translation of an ancient record.
Does any scientifically-minded person really think that the Book of Mormon is a word-for-word translation off of golden plates? Only if they completely ignore the historical evidence and Book of Mormon text itself.
If somebody wants to say that the BOM is an inspired and historical record delivered from the mind of God to the mind of Joseph Smith (with obvious mistakes), then I guess that could be plausible for a believer.
