    Mother's Day in your ward

    What do you guys/gals do?

I'm curious because our ward goes bonkers for it. I usually didn't care but now that I got put in the EQ presidency I have to help plan for it. The entire 3rd hour is a luncheon for the women. The men take over all the classes for the women and they get a lunch prepared by a chef and restaurant owner in our ward complete with linens, centerpieces, flowers, etc. It's absolutely ridiculous. Most of our freaking meager budget goes to this thing every year. I am in charge of the linens and center pieces. Hopefully the restaurant owner is able to do the food again because if not then we're screwed. I wish I knew who started this tradition in our ward because each year since has to be bigger and better and it's out of hand. I want to go to Home Depot and buy a flat of flowers to hand out but there would be gnashing of teeth if this happened.

Maybe I am also just bitter because we jonly get a cookie on Father's Day. I'd rather give you girls the priesthood than have to put on this show.

plant or a bar of chocolate, plus a couple of really nice talks about mothers in Sac Mgt

I may be small, but I'm slow.

          Maybe. Maybe not.

My father was HPGL for the last 5 years and my mother was in the RS presidency. So my dad was doing the luncheon for the most part during that time span with input from my mother and what the sisters wanted, or better said, expected. My dad was released 2 weeks ago and they just made our former EQP the new HPGL. This is when I went into the EQP. The first thing he said was thank goodness he doesn't have to do that luncheon anymore.

In my last ward they didn't make mention of Mother's day unless one of th speakers did. The program was part of a schedule set out in December of the previous year and probably had to do with temples or something.

I suspect that in my new ward, they'll do something.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

We give a flower after Sacrament Meeting, and men substitute in Primary so all the women can go to RS (I know that a few of the women see this as a poor gift, as they would rather be in Primary).

My favorite Father's Day was when my ward used to bring in a huge amount of cookies to the gym and all the men got out of Priesthood 20 minutes early. We don't do that anymore.

Is this because if they have the Priesthood, they will no longer need motherhood to feel equal to the men?

So we could get away with just giving them a cookie too instead of the luncheon.

It was TIC comment in light of recent discussion here.

As a single woman over 30, I consider Mother's Day a bye week so I have no idea what my ward does.

I think if women HAD the priesthood, you wouldn't have to put on such a hullabaloo to legitimize women NOT having the priesthood.

That said, I think this is really ridiculous of your ward to do. It's expensive and not a good allocation of the ward budget. How about just letting church out early so moms can go home and take a nap?

We have some sort of gift (flowers and cookies are typical). second and third hour classes are handled by the men. I am leading singing time in primary that week (I know this thought probabyl makes many of you fear for the children, but don't worry, we are going to have fun; I am planning on teaching them Let it Be and other spiritual classics).
                        PLesa excuse the tpyos.

It can't make the ones that are having troubles getting a swimmer up to the egg feel very good either.
