  • Do you go to church on vacation?

ldc is wondering why I didn't bring anything I could wear to church. I would only attend the 9 am version, which would mean I would get the chance to go to a ward that has "Beach" in the title.

How laid back is California, am I going to get sideways stares in shorts and a t-shirt?

No. I'm not the most spiritual person by a long shot, but absolutely not. It's a vacation. I don't change who I am, I just don't go to church. The one exception is if I'm visiting family and they're going.

No. I'll take any excuse not to go and vacation is a great one.

It depends on the area, and whether I'm interested in getting to know the people better. For example when visiting Europe, heck yes I did.

It depends on where I am. If I am at Lake Powell, of course not.

When I am staying with family and we can attend there ward, we generally go.

For us, it really just depends.

My parents generally took us to church no matter what. I even remember attending church at the Ticaboo branch when we would go to Lake Powell. Talk about a long commute to church...

I've been wearing shorts and a guayabera to church since October/November. After awhile, people stop staring.

As to vacation; sadly, we usually pack to go and then are too lazy to get up and go.

Growing up my parents usually looked for a place to go to church. I of course hated this. When I was a teenager I changed my tune because it provided a nice opportunity to scope out the ward for hot chicks. I met a couple of teenage love interests at the Bullfrog branch at Lake Powell.

Depends on the context. If I'm visiting someone, yes. If I'm in a foreign country, yes. If I'm on a business trip, yes. Most of my trips fit one of those three bills, so I generally do end up going to church when I'm away from home. Generally, though, I'll just go to sacrament that day.

I like to visit old churches in certain places.

My wife grew up with the same mentality. The fact that she depends on me to find the closest ward and when church times will occur, has derailed many church visits while on vacation

We always went while on vacation and often attended all three hours. Yeesh.

In our old ward, this woman got up and proclaimed the she and her family where vacationing from Preston, ID to visit Thanksgiving Point. She then bore fervent testimony that despite the fact her family didn't want to go to church that morning, she has a testimony of attending church while on vacation. *snicker*

Whenever I can, most especially on open mic sunday. I then get up and express thanks that the church is true no matter where I go. The true church just follows me around.
