Ha! No way am I biting on that feeble trolling. Get thee behind me.Originally posted by Jarid in Cedar View Postahh. It is refreshing to see your resolve melting. A post here, a post there, no harm done. But each time it reveals your true desire to throw off the shackles of "a normal life with normal friends". Soon you will be on an all night rampage posting in every thread, railing online about pseudo seizures, newtonian physics, or how Utah just was lucky against TCU in 2008. When it happens, we will welcome to back to belly up to the bar and enjoy a tankard of CUF's best swill.
We will be waiting.....
Oh, snap...At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Yesterday I received some disconcerting news. A fellow junior faculty member has been living apart from his wife since he took the job here. On weekends he'd go and visit. She had stayed behind trying unsuccessfully to sell their house. Yesterday he announced that he would be vacating his position (tenure track in Latin) to go and live with his wife. The house won't sell and rather than walk away from it so she can come live with him here, he will be taking a position at the private school (middle and high school) where she works. They can afford the payment and felt it would be unethical to walk away from it. They are $100k underwater in their mortgage.
I thought his situation was particularly poignant given the sentiments expressed in this thread.Dio perdona tante cose per un’opera di misericordia

I applaud this person and his integrity.Originally posted by pellegrino View PostYesterday I received some disconcerting news. I sincerely hope he is awarded for it. It does bug me to see these jackasses who got us into this mess pulling down their millions in bonus's and figuring out ways to scam the system while some people full of integrity like this person take such a personal hit.

I hope so too. He didn't just give up a nicer house while waiting until the market comes back. He gave up a tenure track job as well. That's the golden goose in academia. I can't think of a greater sacrifice.Originally posted by byu71 View PostI applaud this person and his integrity.

I'm sorry, I can't laud this decision. I think his ethics are sound, but we have bankruptcy laws so that you don't have to be punished forever for a mistake.Originally posted by pellegrino View PostI hope so too. I'm with Wuap on this one. I think he can keep his integrity, his relationship with his wife and his job. If walking away totally bugs him, why not just try to rent the thing (yeah... I know the rental market is bad, too), and sell it in a few years? Maybe his wife doesn't really want to move?????? His thinking just seems a little overly idealistic to me.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostI'm sorry, I can't laud this decision.
