I'm sorry, I can't laud this decision. I think his ethics are sound, but we have bankruptcy laws so that you don't have to be punished forever for a mistake.

I'm not going to judge him. It's his decision to make and he's made it. I will say that I don't think I'd have made the same decision. All the same, I respect his.

I'm with Wuap on this one. I think he can keep his integrity, his relationship with his wife and his job. If walking away totally bugs him, why not just try to rent the thing (yeah... I know the rental market is bad, too), and sell it in a few years? Maybe his wife doesn't really want to move?????? His thinking just seems a little overly idealistic to me.

He tried to rent it and there has been no interest, especially when there are new apartments (it's a condo in an old building) across the streets that are renting for less than what he could afford to rent it for. It literally came down to a decision between walking away and sucking it up and staying.
