Because there are so few, I'd be unlikely to have encountered one who was a bishop. I also haven't met any Greek Bishops. I didn't run into any white bishops in Mexico.

As far as visiting non-white congregations, I can think of better ways of spending my vacations than seeking out such LDS meetinghouses. If it's cultural diversity you want, come visit a Rock Springs Wyoming ward, or even Garden City Utah.
I've been to both Garden City and Rock Springs but I haven't been to church there. Maybe I need to step out more!

In Rock Springs, I really don't recommend it.

I'm surprised at how many Afro-Bishops people have experience with in the USA. I live in an extremely diverse area (for Utah) and was at a stake level meeting with leadership a couple of months ago and of the 100 or so people present only two minorities.

I don't understand what people think my underhanded motive might be in posting this poll. In my opinion, reluctance to take one's own racism temperature, or or a rush to take offense when someone attempts to take that temperature, is its own kind of racism. If you aren't willing to look for racism in yourself, that unwillingness is its own kind of racism.

This thread reminded me of an experience on my mission where we were street contacting and this Hispanic guy we were talking to outside his own church said our Church was only for white people and that they'd never let someone of any color be a leader. I showed him the picture of my family I kept in my scriptures and pointed to my father and said this is my bishop. He found something else to bitch about and we moved on.

Do you know of any Black bishops or stake presidents who served in those leadership positions over primarily white congregations here in the United States?
yes, but the ward outgrew it.

It is a shame that all of the 'yes' folks didn't report on where these bishops were. You wouldn't have to be specific, but just specific enough so we could get a sense of whether or not all of the 'yes' votes refer to the same three black bishops.

Not in the US, but the bishop of the WhiteChapel ward in London was black. Not bishopric, but we had 2 high councilmen in our stake that were both black--that was in Sugarhouse.
