They took a photo of me with raised eyebrows as I read the call to the Costa Rica-San José Mission.

The ward bulletin had me going to the Puerto Rico-San José Mission, wrong on both counts.

I called my 'girlfriend' and she was excited. Not excited enough to kiss me, ever. But, excited. I asked her to consider marrying me about a year after I got home (we dated for a year after I came home). She told me she'd think about it. I didn't pester her, and six weeks later she called me and told me she was going on a mission to Rosario, Argentina.

I assume she meant 'no.' She never said.
Wait, wait, wait. Am I to understand you asked a girl who you had never kissed to consider marrying you, and that you dated a girl who wouldn't kiss you for an entire year? Am I reading that correctly?

After watching a few more of those, I've come around to thinking that, on balance, it's pretty cool to see these. I even get a little choked up at some of them, but that's the parent in me. I was way more emotional when filsdepac got his call than when I got mine. But in the boy's case it meant I was going to vacation in Switzerland and France in a couple of years, so my emotion was understandable.

        PAC,

If you were my dad...you would have been so excited with your trip to Tacoma.

Honestly, I probably would have been, but only after the shock had worn off from the news that you were my and Raquel Welch's love child.

Heh. Then my mom would have been smokin hot.

My mission call opening went something like this...

I am on vacation in Las Vegas with my Aunt, Uncle and cousin. I am basically the babysitter for my 8 year old cousin. We come back to the hotel from doing something stupid, don't remember what it was, and there was the message light on the phone. We check messges and it is my folks asking us to call them right away. Here is the play by play.

            Me: What's up?
Parents: Your mission call came today.
Me: Really? Sweet we will be home in 2 days.
Parents: We aren't waiting. Let's open it now.
Me: No, I want to open it when I get home.
Parents: Too late. You are going to the Washington Tacoma Mission!
            Me: Well shit.

My response was for 2 reasons. 1...who the hell opens their kids mission call without even asking them? And 2. Tacoma blows. It isn't even outside of the time zone I live in. Ooooo....exciting.

I got my mission call over the phone. We were leaving Saudi Arabia for a very long vacation to England and then to the US and then (presumably) to the MTC. A couple of days before my flight, my stake president called up SLC and finally got them to cough up where I was going to go.

I get a call at 6AM from the stake president. He said "you're going to London" and I replied "yeah, we're flying there in a week" and then he said, "No, your mission call is to London".

So I got to visit London 10 weeks before returning as a missionary.
Everything in life is an approximation.

My mom was at work when the mail came. I opened the letter, looked up the place I was going in the encyclopedia, called my mom and told her, and then left to go waterballooning with some freinds.
                PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I was on the 15 hole at Pinecrest Golf Course in Idaho Falls. My Mom drove all the way down to IF and found me on the course so I could open it. After wishing for San Diego and getting Winnipeg I didn't play very well for the last three holes.

I did the fake out on my family. Opened my call, put on the disappointed face, read Fargo ND put my papers down and walked out of the room. My family was shocked at my reaction and confused when my sisiter said, why would you speak portuguese in ND? Cheers abound he's going to brazil!

I just faked out my brother. His mission papers were sent in just a day or two ago. I texted him today and said "Don't plan on checking the mail for several months. Backlog at the Missionary Department. Calls aren't coming out for months." He called me immediately and asked me if I was serious. I said I was and he asked where I heard such a thing and I said "Remember Aristides' uncle who works for the church?" My brother started freaking out. Now he is mad at me and says he will get me back. Maybe he will make me wait to find out where he is going when he does receive his call.

Go ahead and make fun. Laugh it up. It was complicated. I will destroy you, gently.
