I pay fast offering based on two meals, usually on the home made model. Then my wife pays what I consider to be a way more than generous fast offering from her salary. So between us, as a family, we pay a very generous fast offering.Originally posted by SonOFpeRdiTioN View Post1. What's your typical fast offering contribution? (anon poll) and

I don't base it on what I would spend on a meal. My wife and I have decided on a monthly minimum and then we give as much as we can depending on the month. I answered the poll according to the monthly minimum.Dio perdona tante cose per un’opera di misericordia

I can see the exchange in the clerk's office now.Originally posted by RC Vikings View PostSince their are three of us at home I figure what three #1's at McDonald's would cost us and then double it. When I'm feeling very generous I just supersize it.
CLERK: Wow, looks like the Vikings are living large, they supersized their fast-offering this month.
COUNSELOR: MMMMM, supersized Mickey D's [drools] What do you say we break our fast with the Hamburgler after we drop the deposit off?Dio perdona tante cose per un’opera di misericordia

I'm currently the ward financial clerk, and have been a ward clerk several times. I've never worked with anyone - bishop, counselor, clerks - who pays much attention to the amounts people are paying. Over time, you do get a very rough feel of the relative wealth in the ward, but except for a handful of surprises (mostly people living much more simply than their income would support), nothing you can't figure out simply by being a participating member of the ward.Originally posted by All-American View PostIs it possible to give fast offering and tithing anonymously? Should it be? I'd hate to think that we give or base the amount which we give according to what we believe our leaders will think when they see it.
Even with tithing settlement just concluded, I highly doubt our bishop (if he were to be frank and honest) could tell you much detail about the donation amounts paid in the ward. I know I can't.

I agree with this and I'm also a fin clerk. Before my calling, I had an idea of the relative wealth in the ward and there really were no surprises after doing the tithing batches for a couple months.Originally posted by NorthShoreCoug View PostI'm currently the ward financial clerk, and have been a ward clerk several times. The amount of FO paid into the ward by families though does not always have a correlation with wealth. Some are just more generous."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Once lived in a ward where the bishop sent out a letter to abt 25 families (asking for complete confidence) asking them to increase their FO donation to $XXX. I assume this was done based on determining who paid the greatest amount of tithing and whether it appeared they could afford more $$ towards a FO donation.Originally posted by NorthShoreCoug View PostI'm currently the ward financial clerk, and have been a ward clerk several times. Knowing the way communication works in the church, the recipients of the letter were probably broadly known in two weeks time.Originally posted by mUUser View PostOnce lived in a ward where the bishop sent out a letter to abt 25 families (asking for complete confidence) asking them to increase their FO donation to $XXX. I hope I never move. I read all these cracks about how "the church" works and it is so foreign to the way things go in my ward that it makes me very grateful.Originally posted by Eddie Jones View PostKnowing the way communication works in the church, the recipients of the letter were probably broadly known in two weeks time."It's devastating, because we lost to a team that's not even in the Pac-12.
