I'd say we base ours on one homemade meal and one eat out meal.

      3. Are you "generous" beyond your two meals?
I pay fast offering based on two meals, usually on the home made model. Then my wife pays what I consider to be a way more than generous fast offering from her salary. So between us, as a family, we pay a very generous fast offering.

I don't base it on what I would spend on a meal. My wife and I have decided on a monthly minimum and then we give as much as we can depending on the month. I answered the poll according to the monthly minimum.

Since their are three of us at home I figure what three #1's at McDonald's would cost us and then double it. When I'm feeling very generous I just supersize it.

I can see the exchange in the clerk's office now.

CLERK: Wow, looks like the Vikings are living large, they supersized their fast-offering this month.

COUNSELOR: MMMMM, supersized Mickey D's [drools] What do you say we break our fast with the Hamburgler after we drop the deposit off?

Is it possible to give fast offering and tithing anonymously? Should it be? I'd hate to think that we give or base the amount which we give according to what we believe our leaders will think when they see it.

I'm currently the ward financial clerk, and have been a ward clerk several times. I've never worked with anyone - bishop, counselor, clerks - who pays much attention to the amounts people are paying. Over time, you do get a very rough feel of the relative wealth in the ward, but except for a handful of surprises (mostly people living much more simply than their income would support), nothing you can't figure out simply by being a participating member of the ward.

Even with tithing settlement just concluded, I highly doubt our bishop (if he were to be frank and honest) could tell you much detail about the donation amounts paid in the ward. I know I can't.

I agree with this and I'm also a fin clerk. Before my calling, I had an idea of the relative wealth in the ward and there really were no surprises after doing the tithing batches for a couple months.

The amount of FO paid into the ward by families though does not always have a correlation with wealth. Some are just more generous.

Once lived in a ward where the bishop sent out a letter to abt 25 families (asking for complete confidence) asking them to increase their FO donation to $XXX. I assume this was done based on determining who paid the greatest amount of tithing and whether it appeared they could afford more $$ towards a FO donation.

Knowing the way communication works in the church, the recipients of the letter were probably broadly known in two weeks time.

I hope I never move. I read all these cracks about how "the church" works and it is so foreign to the way things go in my ward that it makes me very grateful.

I pick a number and give that much. I don't compare it to the cost of a couple meals.

By the way, we have 4 houses currently for sale in our ward. Any of you are welcome to move in.
