    Advice

The primary president just called me and left a message. She wants to have a presidency meeting tonight so we can "come up with some ideas" or other such nonsense. If things go as historically, it will be an epic 3-hour meeting wherein we talk about Cri-cut machines, why the Primary mailbox isn't cute enough and needs to be redone, and what new tacky craft we can make for the teachers to tell them how much we 'ppreciate them.

    Barf.

I incidentally don't have anything pressing going on tonight, but find arranging meetings 10 hours before they occur to be unacceptable unless it is under an emergency situation, which this is not. Do I encourage this behavior by going to the meeting? Say I can stay for an hour and if the meeting isn't over, leave? Apologize for being busy, but telling her that I need at least 2 days' notice before a meeting is to take place??

Note: this Primary president is very emotionally fragile and has her feelings hurt very easily.

My advice is to go and suffer fools with a loving heart.

Tell her you find scheduling meetings of this nature on short notice to be rude and her meetings in particular to be pointless. You're only coddling her if you go along.

Unless they can take your birthday or husband away. Then I'd go along.

I would be unlikely to go. I hate pointless meetings. If you feel obligated, say you can only stay for some specific period of time and ask if the items on the agenda involving your area of responsibility can be handled first.
          PLesa excuse the tpyos.

The DDD Doctrine dictates that the Sunday School hour at Church be used for, amongst other things:

            1. Presidency/leadership/planning meetings
            2. End-of-month home teaching
            3. Foyeurism
            4. Quick visits to the house (if you live nearby)
            5. Sunday School
            6. Walking around the hallways looking busy, pretending to be searching for the Bishop, or randomly looking in classroom windows.

All of the above are acceptable.

                LOL @ foyeurism. Nice.

Totally agree with this. There is no reason for a people who spend three hours at church every week to have more meetings. I nominate DDD for president or prophet or whatever.

Sheesh, if you ever join the LDS church, and I ever move to Wyoming, and we ever wind up being in the same ward, and your wife and my wife happen to get called to serve together in the Primary....I sure hope they behave better than what you are suggesting.

(I realize that the odds are low but I felt like something needed to be said)

You should see some of the ideas I have for home/visiting teaching.

Well, and there's the rub. She's behaving inappropriately and inefficiently. All the other presidency members are technologically-inept 30-somethings with at least 3 kids, so I think they sort of LIKE the epic 3-hour meetings every week. I have just started leaving if they go longer than 2 hours.

Nonetheless, I do have to continue working with this woman and if she hates me (which I have a sense she already does... it seems she disapproves of my being in law school and for its constraints on my time), it complicates matters. Better to be hated than have 3 hours of presidency meetings every week?

Take a page from RobinFinderson's book.

If you truly want peace, employ proportionality.

Call her to your house tonight and keep her there for 3 hours, talking to her about law school.
