I remember the good ol' days when you suggest that they introduce themselves at Ellis Island and be eager to ask them the prototypical "wuap" question. What happened to THAT welcome wagon?Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostWho in the hell is Tone Loc?I'm your huckleberry.

People didn't respect the wuap question, so each time I got a cheeky response, that little bit of joy in me died a little until there was nothing left but acrimony and a geriatric distrust of strangers, especially mouthy strangers. This is the bitter harvest of all the pedagogical welcomes I tried to sow having salt scattered in their fields.Originally posted by FN Phat View PostI remember the good ol' days when you suggest that they introduce themselves at Ellis Island and be eager to ask them the prototypical "wuap" question. Also, I taught 21 hours this semester, so I haven't had time for my normal posting time/quality/skills. For example, none of the mujerdocio has sent me a pissed-off PMs in at least two months. Normally my immature posting style would've provoked several."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. If it makes you feel any better, I looked for a hidden message in the space above.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostPeople didn't respect the wuap question, so each time I got a cheeky response, that little bit of joy in me died a little until there was nothing left but acrimony and a geriatric distrust of strangers, especially mouthy strangers. I know Lingo's post may be TIC. But this is the post that bothers me more than any other in this thread -- even more than Indy shutting of his brain in responding to any post that could be perceived as critical of the Church.Originally posted by JohnnyLingo View PostThe woman who gave the closing prayer for the RS session of the last GC went on and on and on for about five minutes.
Seriously, it was a talk disguised as a prayer.
That is probably why they aren't allowed to pray in the other sessions.
This post by Lingo, even if tongue-in-cheek, is misogynistic. The attitude exemplified in this post is the unfortunate byproduct of these "traditions with no basis" like not inviting women to speak in General Conference.

Don't bother, he'll just come back with some lame riposte and say "I was just kidding" when he laid into The Dude the other day for telling him it was just a joke. Oh Wuap, I'm sure you're not that old.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostPeople didn't respect the wuap question, so each time I got a cheeky response, that little bit of joy in me died a little until there was nothing left but acrimony and a geriatric distrust of strangers
Whenever I am asked to say the prayer, I insist on doing the invocation. If they've already got someone for the opening prayer, I ask them to switch me with that person so I go first. They are usually so desperate for someone to say the prayer that they always accommodate me.Originally posted by Solon View PostIn our stake it's women can't give the opening prayer in Sacrament meeting, but they often give closing prayers. When someone asked my wife and me to pray, with the caveat that I go first
It's because though I am ok with prepared remarks, I am extremely uncomfortable with extemporaneous praying. So I'd rather go at the beginnning and get it over with. If I have to say the closing prayer, I just sit there and worry about it and get nothing out of the meeting. And yes, I am very jealous of all you people who can say an inspirational prayer on the fly.
Why is it I cannot hear that term without thinking of cafe au lait?Originally posted by creekster View PostIt is just a melange.

That's my question as well. Have you all lost your touch or something? Never inform the masses about what is going on behind closed doors. Ever! There are some things we just don't speak about here. Sheesh....Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostDon't bother, he'll just come back with some lame riposte and say "I was just kidding" when he laid into The Dude the other day for telling him it was just a joke. I was once a SS president (tough calling by the way as I injured my finger multiple times while pressing the bell button) and I had a woman as the secretary. I know the secretary isn't officially in the presidency but still I thought I was being progressive. Plus she was excellent at her calling so we kept her there as long as we could.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostOr a woman in the Sunday School Presidency -- I'm pretty sure you don't need the Priesthood for that."Discipleship is not a spectator sport.
