Could Muhammad Be a Prophet?

I think it's quite silly to believe that god inspired Muhammad whatsoever (even if one accepts that "god" "inspires" anyone), and I cite how much more difficult it is to convert a Muslim than it is to convert Buddhists, Hindus, or basically any other religion's followers. Still, if the modern prophets have said that god inspired Muhammad, then it is 100% hypocritical to deny that he did while criticizing others for not following the same prophets.

Also, keep in mind that Satan counterfeits as a way of deceit. Who is to say that he didn't take elements of Judaism, and Christianity and package it as a messge to the Arabs so that they don't feel left out on this "new monotheistic trend" ? I could see maybe a small part of his message being sinspired, as in the one god principle, but not all or even most of his message could be inspired, if you still hold to the principles of the Gospel and believe them to be the word of God.

BYUTexan, what about the Constitution? Ezra Taft Benson and others have claimed it was inspired by God, yet it had the "Three-fifths Compromise". Surely, a God that is "no respecter of persons" wouldn't have inspired a document that rendered one person to have 60% the value of another, right?

This may not be worth much, but as someone who has read an English transliteration of the Quran, and some of the Hadith, and a book on interpretations thereof, I can tell you that I had a positive spiritual experience.

Well surely you recognize in the scriptures where it says clearly that god inspired Christopher Columbus? Does that mean god approved of the native american holocaust? The modern prophets have also been very explicit in saying that god inspired Martin Luther, which paved the way for protestantism and mormonism. Have you ever looked at some of the ridiculous and offensive things that Luther taught? Why would god inspire him at all if he wasn't going to inspire him all the way?

Your argument is strictly counter to the words of the prophets, both ancient and modern. You lose.

I haven't read this thread and don't plan to. I think the title is off-putting. Of course he's a prophet. Why not? He's a prophet as much as and in the same sense as Abraham, Jacob, Paul or Joseph Smith. I recommend Harold Bloom's writings in which he bestows that title on Joseph Smith.

You really should brush up on your Islamic history. While Muhammed surely had a checkered past, the real hatchet-man was Ali.

Muslims, contrary to popular belief, never forced conversions. Rather, they offered financial, civic, and political incentives to members of the faith - but still the overall rule was one of tolerance.

Compare, for instance, the Christian conquest of Jerusalem in 1099 where Christian invaders killed every man, woman, and child in the city - regardless of religion. Fulk of Chartres left a vivid first-hand account. I quote:

Many fled to the roof of the temple of Solomon, and were shot with arrows, so that they fell to the ground dead. In this temple almost ten thousand were killed. Indeed, if you had been there you would have seen our feet colored to our ankles with the blood of the slain. But what more shall I relate? None of them were left alive; neither women nor children were spared.

On the other hand, when Saladin re-took the city for Islamic forces in 1187, he did so with a spirit of tolerance, allowing Christians to leave with their possessions and preventing looting and murder.

Saladin had taken counsel and laid down these ransom terms for the inhabitants of Jerusalem: each male, ten years old and over, was to pay ten besants for his ransom; females, five besants; boys, seven years old and under, one. Umayyad Spain was one of the finest civilizations ever to grace the earth. The Abbasid caliphate produced great works of art, literature, and scientific advancement. It is only in the past few hundred years that Islam has turned inwards and become reactionary and conservative, and the reasons behind that shift are still being distilled and debated.

So get that weak-sauce "Islam is satanic" corn out of my face.
