Stake Conference Attendance

I enjoy the Saturday evening adults-only session. I missed this year's BYU/TCU showdown for it. As for the elementary, general Sunday talks- not so much.

Anyone else feel weird calling the Saturday meeting the "adult session?"

My wife and I make jokes about it.

I guess that shows you how "spiritual" we are.

I suppose if you go to the adult session, you can probably enjoy adult beverages at dinner afterwards.

And so on and so forth.

I have been to most General Sessions of Stake Conference. Make it to an average of about one in four adult meetings. Other things come up. Though there are times I would of liked to have been to the adult sessions.

Interesting thing on Stake Conference my brother has late church. Went to a baby blessing. Didn't know it was stake conference next week showed up at church at 1 and no one was there.

I wanted to go to ADult meeting with Neal L Anderson when he came since he is from were I served my mission missed that and didn't talk to him after Sunday sessions. Same time as TF Temple groundbreaking. Did miss Saturday sessions to attend High School 8 man playoff game.

Several bishops and High Councilman that should of been in conference were at the game. One bishop said get to church to the other bishop. I know sp member would of been there if he was not in sp. His adult son took his two younger brothers to the game. A former sp was there he had a kid playing.

I heard of two sessions of Stake Conference when parking and accomodations are not great. Or having STake Conference in two buildings.

But can you beam Stake Conference throughout the STake? I don't know if our building could hold multiple wards. But made for three Wards but for the Broadcast conference that would save a lot of time. USe webcam or cellphone for sustaining of officers or closed circuit television have High Councilman in all the buildings with satelite dishes and let wards watch at Least Broadcast from there own building for General Session. Would save a lot of travel.

As for seating Chapel if you have the patience to sit through an hour of prelude and choir. Gym if you don't mind the hard chairs. Stage is actually decent place helps you see better. I went to Stake Conference early enough to get decent Gym seat and people were already seated on Stage.

I don't like the overflow rooms myself with a tv there are plenty of those. But for families with little kids if you don't mind watching it those would be decent seats soft and you don't have to wait.

Thing I hated about last one I watched in an outlying room was it was broadcast conference and we could hear the audio and Organ playing. However for the STake President conducting and prayers could not see them. I didn't like that very well. Could see Salt Lake but not the face of people in chapel of Stake Center.

The leg is doing well. It's still a little tender but I don't have that big pool of blood in there any more.

So he misses SC because he doesn't want to expose his kids to sickness but does he allow them to go to primary?

SC attendance is always down compared to church. I dreaded SC for years because my wife insisted on being in the choir. That would leave me with multiple young children and trying to keep them quiet for two hours while sitting on a hard chair in the cultural hall. I rarely got anything out of SC but I went because in that rare time I got something out of it, it was very good.

SC is a chore with young kids, but honestly some of the best talks I've ever heard have come out of SC.

SC is in a couple weeks and all the buildings in our stake are wired to receive a broadcast from the stake center. I talked to the stake clerk (he's in our ward) and he said it's broadcast over the internet. I asked for the details on how to tap into the broadcast but he wouldn't give them up.

Folks, we are on the cusp of having stake conference in our pajamas and next up will be sacrament meeting!

I was talking to a friend of mine early this morning and he said his Bishop talked to him about SC attendance. He said the Bishop said the previous week the attendance at SC was 22% and the SP was concerned and wanted to know why.

My friend told the Bishop that he has small children, 3 under 7 and that with all the sickness going around he didn't want his kids exposed. As a matter of fact, he keeps them out of the nursery.

I told him with all the meetings and stuff he should have told the Bishop he looks at SP as a vacation. He kind of chuckled and said, I don't think they want to hear that.

Is this just an isolated thing or do you think SC attendance is down all over.

He has done informal analysis of this very topic. Based on his findings, poor attendance at SC is not unusual. His theoretical reasoning is that most LDS meetings are just plain bad, and the speakers are awful. So, an "optional" meeting like SC naturally draws a piss poor crowd.

This professor also gave a pretty hilarious rehearsal of how this theory was received when he shared it with his local stake presidency.

We've become a religion of wimps. I remember the days of two stake conference general sessions on Sunday, separated by an hour-long lunch break catered by a fundraising ward. Despite my dad being on the stand in those days, I'd occasionally bail on the second session and attend a Greek Orthodox session just down the hill from the Oakland Temple.

But even the double stake conference session was preferable to the four hours of confabs on an ordinary Sunday that included a 6:30 PM sacrament meeting.

And now a two-hour morning conference session is simply unbearable? As a grizzled home teachee of mine would have said, "Jesus is probably spinning in his grave."
