  • Your best guess at tithing revenue

To keep this simple I'm only using U.S. membership numbers b/c I don't imagine non-U.S. countries are bringing in much (probably barely covering their expenses).

    5.7 million U.S. members
    1.71 million active members (30%)
    513K full tithe payers (30%)
    $30K ave income
    513K members paying $3K per year = $1.539 bil

    Cash money baby (jk).

Anybody want to take a stab at what operating expenses are?

Just wondering - what makes you think that only 30% of active members pay a full tithe?

IMO, you're at the low end of a 99% CI.

I've heard that the missionary department requires over $1 billion per year. Every missionary paying $400/month doesn't come close to covering the overhead, especially considering that they give $140/month right back for a monthly allowance. The net of $520/month per companionship does not pay for rent, utilities, cars, airfare, health insurance, etc.

Senior missionaries do not get the discounted rate and how many missionary needs ("opportunities") have you seen posted on the bulletin boards that say the cost would be $1200/month, $1500/month, $2000/month?

kids and spouses with no earned income = missed family opportunities. These fathers have some work to do.

Is "CI" capital income? Utah is just under $32,000.

              EDIT: I meant "capita income"

Don't forget the people who deduct the $10,000 legacy football donation from their tithing.

How many wards in the US? I know what my ward nets per week.

I can't believe OE are not over a billion, higher than you might think, notwithstanding that they don't pay for a lot of services. The universities are heavily subsidised. All the employees in the COB. Maintenance and insrance on all the real estate. I'm sure I'm missing major areas of money drainage. Adds up.

I think the LDS Church's fantastic wealth is one of its mythical elements. $1.539 billion hardly would qualify it as a medium-sized business. You hear about all these business interests it owns but where are they? It's like the mafia into all these legitimate businesses and you don't know it? So far I can tell, it's securities, and probably pretty dull ones at that.

Scottie is our strongest starter. Some of us like 3D and me are strictly or mainly mid-innings relievers and closers. My World Series starting rotation would include Scottie and Sooner and I'm not sure who else.

You crack me up with your comments about me being a strong starter, I'll take it as a compliment. You might be our Mariano Rivera.

I think the Times article a while back estimated $6B.

I heard somewhere BYU gets about $500M tithing dollars a year.

$6B sounds in the ball park.

I just texted a friend in the COB for confirmation, she is in the know. She said the annual overhead is "well over one billion."
